The president of the Algerian People's Democratic Republic is Algeria 's head of state . It will be elected by direct elections and final votes, and the term of office is five years and can be one time.[5] The candidate registration requires a signature signature of more than 600 elected officials or more than 50,000 voters.

- Abdelmalek Benhabilis (عبد المالك بن حابيليس) served as acting president upon the death of Shadli Bendedid.
- Mohamed Boudiaf (محمد بوضياف), 4th President and Chairman of the High Council of State, was assassinated four months after returning to Algeria from Morocco after accepting his post.
- Ali Kafi (علي حسين كافي), 5th President and Chairman of the National High Council.
- Liamin Jerual (اليمين زروال) is the 6th president of Algeria. He served as Minister of National Defense for about two months.
- Abdelaziz Bouteflika (عبد العزيز بوتفليقة), Algeria's 7th President and 5th Chairman of the National Liberation Front , previously served as Algeria's Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also served as President of the United Nations General Assembly.
- Abdelkhader Bensala (عبد القـادر بن صالح), Acting President. Previously, he also served as President of the National Council, the upper house of Algeria's bicameral parliament.
