The South African Republic, which was launched in 1961, maintained a parliamentary system and elected the president as an indirect election. At the time, a strong apartheid policy was being implemented, so white people were elected president. The parliamentary system was changed to the Presidential System , which was elected indirect elections by the Congress by the Bota regime's amendment in 1984 . The President of South Africa elects one of the members of the South African National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, through a vote. If elected as president, he cannot concurrently serve as a member of the National Assembly, and the elected member must resign from his position as member of the National Assembly.[1]
