1. outline
It is a small island country located in the Mozambique Strait , north of Madagascar Island . The name of the country is said to be derived from the Arabic word Qamar (قَمَر / qamar), which means moon, but there is no evidence. Because it is geographically related to Swahili , it is also included in the Swahili language region .
2. language
The official languages are Comoros , French , and Arabic . Among these, Comoro is the official first language, but it is a Swahili- related language that is mainly used as an everyday language. Because it was once ruled by France, French is also the official language and is a member of the Francophony .
3. citizen
Most of the residents are Comorians of Swahili descent . Comorians have a high percentage of Islam due to Arab and Persian influence . And Comoros is a full member of the Arab League . A small number of Malagasy people also live in Comoros.

Mohéli Island Comorian name: Mwali[10] | Anjouan Island Comorian name: Ndzuwani | |
Area: 1,025km² | Area: 211km² | Area: 424km² |
Three of the four islands of the Comoros archipelago are Comorian territory, and Mayotte (Maore in Comorian) on the eastern end is an overseas department of France .
5. Territorial Disputes and Separatism
The Comoros government claims sovereignty over Mayotte Island. However, the island of Mayotte remained a French territory because its residents wanted it. As a result of the referendum on independence, the other three islands showed strong support, but Mayotte was the only island with strong voices opposing independence and remaining a French territory.
In 1997, when the economy was messed up by the coup and various anxiety factors, Angjuang Island declared independence with 99%of its own votes, and Moeli Island also declared independence.
Anjouan Island petitioned to return to French rule, but France did not accept it. For France, in the current situation where imperialism has ended, there is no significant benefit to incorporating Anjouan Island into its territory. And if Anjouan becomes a French territory, it is expected that residents will obtain French citizenship and request to emigrate to mainland France in large numbers, which is not welcome given the rapidly growing Muslim population on the mainland.
Moeli Island returned to Comoros shortly after the declaration of independence, and Anjouan Island eventually joined the Comoros Federation, which was relaunched in 2002 . Although it was somewhat stable in the 2000s, in 2008 , Anjouan Island rebelled against the government and was violently suppressed by the central government forces and African Union forces.

The flag of Comoros consists of a green triangle, a crescent moon symbolizing Islam, four five-pointed stars, and the colors yellow, white, red, and blue. The crescent moon symbolizes Islam, and the four five-pointed stars symbolize the islands of the Comoros: Anjouan, Moéli, Grande Comor, and Mayotte. Yellow represents Moeli Island, white represents Mayotte Island, red represents Anjouan Island, and blue represents Grande Comor Island.
The previous flag had only a crescent moon and stars symbolizing the four islands on a green background. At one time, the prayer was mixed with green and red background, but later it returned to green, and the crescent moon and star were partially laid down or tilted to the right. Around 1996, Arabic letters meaning ' Muhammad (مُحَمَّد)' and ' God (الله)' were engraved on it. Because it is an Islamic country, the green color, crescent moon, and star were kept the same.
From the time of independence in 1975 to 2001, the national flag was changed a whopping 6 times over 26 years.[11] , the current Comoros flag was adopted on December 23, 2001 and remains in use today.
However, Mayotte is an autonomous region of France , so neither France nor Mayotte recognize it, and Mayotte itself wishes to remain French, so it requested a revision of the flag. There was also a previous request to remove one of the four stars that symbolizes Mayotte.

Moroni port
People have been living here for quite some time. The first people to inhabit the area are thought to be Malagasy , and people continued to migrate from Africa and Madagascar . Afterwards, Islam was spread by merchants from the Middle East and the country became Islamized. And it was quite prosperous, subject to raids by Malagasy pirates, and there were dozens of sultans in this small town . In reality, it is correct to view him as merely maintaining an Amir-level region, not as a sultan. For example, there were 12 sultans on the island of Grande Comor. France took possession of these islands in the 19th century . In 1912 , it became part of French Malagasy .
Comoros became independent from France in 1975 . However, in Mayotte , about 60% of residents supported remaining in France, and in 1976, after Comoros independence , 99.4% supported remaining in France. Anyway, Ahmed Abdallah Abderemane became the first president of Comoros, but he was ousted in August 1975 in a coup by Saïd Mohamed Jaffar, sponsored by French mercenary Bob Denard . However, Said Moamed Jafar was also ousted by the socialist Ali Soilih in 1976, and Soilih was also assassinated by Bob Denar in 1978 , and Ahmed Abdallah returned to power as president.
Ahmed Abdallah remained in power until 1989, but throughout his reign, the state remained in limbo due to Bob Denar's political intervention and the youth's support for Souali. After Ahmed Abdallah was assassinated in 1989, Saïd Mohamed Djohar, the leader of the provisional government, was inaugurated as president, but he was also ousted by a coup led by Bob Denard in 1995. It was overthrown in September . Bob Denard, who dominated Comoros politics, was repatriated to France in October 1995 through Operation Azalée carried out by GIGN , leading to his downfall.
Mohamed Taki Abdoulkarim became president through the 1996 elections , but he died during his term in office in 1998 amid political instability, including the declaration of independence by the islands of Anjouan and Moeli in 1997 . Afterwards, former prime minister Tadjidine ben Saïd Massounde became interim president, but in 1999 On May 6 , a military coup brought Azali Assoumani to power. Assoumani, who took power in a coup, became president, and a coup also took place on Anjouan Island, and Colonel Mohamed Bacar took over. Moeli Island had already returned in 1998, and in 2002 , Anjouan Island was to return to the Comoros Federation, with the three islands having separate presidents, with the federal president elected on a rotating basis.[12] In the 2006 presidential election , the first election under the new constitution, Ahmed Sambi of Anjouan Island was elected federal president and received the first peaceful transfer of power from Azali Assoumani. Bacard rebelled against the government while being re-elected as President of Anjouan in 2008 , but was soon suppressed. In the 2011 presidential election, Ikililou Dhoinine of Moili Island was elected as federal president, and in the 2016 presidential election, when it was Grande Comor's turn, Azali Assoumani returned as federal president.
Assumani pursued a vision to elevate Comoros to a developing country by 2030 , and in 2018 In July , instead of shortening his term by two years, he passed a constitutional amendment bill to reset the rotation system at 10-year intervals from 2019 through a referendum, and was eventually re-elected with an overwhelming vote in the presidential election held on March 24, 2019 . Political unrest is growing, with a shooting incident occurring on March 28, 2019 , resulting in several casualties . In the general election held in 2020, almost all of them were filled with government-supporting lawmakers.
