2. history
The history of the Belgian dynasty begins when Leopold of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family , a branch of the Wettin family that ruled Saxony in Germany , ascended the throne as King Leopold I of independent Belgium in 1831 . The Belgian revolutionary forces that founded Belgium preferred a constitutional monarchy and elected Louis of Nemours, the second son of King Louis-Philippe I of France at the time, as King of Belgium. However, the European powers, whose Napoleonic Wars were still fresh in their minds, approved this. I didn't.
Instead, the Belgian revolutionary faction installed Leopold, the eldest son-in-law of King Louis-Philippe I, from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as king. Belgium adopted a constitutional monarchy right after its founding , and Leopold I's authority was not very great, but he nevertheless contributed to maintaining the precarious independence of Belgium with his outstanding diplomacy and consolidated the constitutional monarchy of Belgium even amidst the wave of revolution that swept the European continent.
Originally, the king's lighting/family name was Saxony Koburg Gota, but the first World War broke out during the reign of Albert I , and the German Empire attacked the Belgium and made it a wormwood field . As a result, Albert I changed the royal name, which was German in 1920, to Belgium , and Sung also changed to 'Van België', 'de Belgique', and 'Von Belgien', which means 'Belgium ~~'.[1]
During World War II, the royal family also faced a great crisis. As in World War I, when Nazi Germany invaded Belgium, King Leopold III declared surrender to Germany, thinking that Germany was winning. However, government ministers below the Prime Minister decided that the Allies were winning and formed a government in exile in London . Contrary to Nazi Germany's intentions, Leopold III attempted to remain cooperative and neutral towards Germany like Vichy France , so Nazi Germany imprisoned him until the end of the war.
The war ended with Germany's defeat, and the Belgian government-in-exile attempted to depose the king by holding him accountable for his helpless surrender. In 1944, when Belgium was liberated, the Belgian government in exile did not reinstate Leopold III, but instead appointed his younger brother, Charles de Belgique/Karel van België 1903-1983, Count of Flanders, as regent, and Leopold III had to go into exile in Switzerland . .
At all, the left camp tried to abolish the monarchy by holding the king responsible for the collapse of the country, but in a referendum in 1950, the supporters of Leopold III's reinstatement overcame the opponents to restore him. However, regardless of the pros and cons of the monarchy, the atmosphere that Leopold III could not be tolerated prevailed around Walloon , and in 1951 he had to abdicate and resign to his son Baldwin .
In 2017 , the use of the previous surname, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, was permitted for all royal family members other than the king and his immediate family, and in 2019, the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family coat of arms was added again to the royal family coat of arms. article Crown Princess Elisabeth's ID card with the surname 'De Saxcobourg' written on it

[1] In England, at about the same time and for the same reason, the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty was renamed the Windsor dynasty .[2] He is actually the eldest son, as his older brother, Louis-Philippe, died prematurely within a year of his birth.[3] He was the second son of Philip, Count of Flanders, younger brother of Leopold II.[4] He ignored the cabinet's exile in London during World War II and unilaterally surrendered to Germany, leading to the post-war Koningskwestie (question royale), forcing him to abdicate on 16 July 1951.[5] He abdicated on July 21, 2013, due to controversies over female pilgrimage and out-of-wedlock.
