▲ Moon Jae-in Opening declaration by the President of the Republic of Korea |
Main program intro by broadcaster[9]
The 23rd Winter Olympics was held in Pyeongchang- gun , Jeongseon-gun, and Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea .[10] It is the first Olympics held in Korea 30 years after hosting the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and the first Winter Olympics held in Korea .[11]
This competition was held in Pyeongchang-gun and Jeongseon-gun for snow sports and in Gangneung-si for ice sports, and all stadiums in each city are located within 30 minutes of the ' Alpensia Sports Park '. Korea became the second Asian country to host the Winter Olympics and was also the eighth country in the world.[12] , becoming the second country in Asia to host both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics. It also earned the title of being the Winter Olympics held at the second lowest latitude, following the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics .
With the hosting of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Korea became the fifth country in the world to host all four major international sports competitions, following Italy , Germany , Japan , and France .[13] It is also a chapter in the modern history of the Republic of Korea that showed that the Republic of Korea, which first participated in the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics with a three-member team despite poor circumstances immediately after liberation, had leapt into the world's major ice skating powerhouse .
Meanwhile , according to a tripartite agreement between South Korea , North Korea , and the IOC , a special unified flag was used instead of the national flags of the two countries for only two purposes: the entrance of athletes at the opening ceremony and the nationality display of the unified women's ice hockey team. The Olympic rings and Taegeukgi (the host country's flag) were hoisted at the Olympic main stadium. korea The Taegeukgi and national anthem were used to indicate that a player belonged to the KOR team , and similarly, the North Korean flag was used to indicate that a player belonged to the KOR team. For players on the PRK team , the North Korean national flag and the North Korean national anthem were used to distinguish the two.[14] This is the first Winter Olympics where the number of gold medals awarded exceeds 100 .

2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Emblem | 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Emblem |
Snow and ice in Pyeongchang, the place where heaven and earth meet[15] , It is said that it means a world open to everyone , where winter sports stars and people from around the world come together . As you can see , it was created by taking the consonants ㅍ and ㅊ from 'Pyeongchang' . The emblem , which was created after about a year of work, is said to be based on the idea of 'creating the most global thing with the most Korean thing.' Originally, a design contest was held for the public, but as no suitable works emerged, 10 emblem designs were selected through an open bidding targeting professional companies. Among them, the work designed by designer Ha Jong-ju attracted the attention of the organizing committee officials with its uniqueness and motif, and the emblem was confirmed after collecting opinions from international experts and passing the IOC 's commando search. 'ㅍ' contains the meaning of an open square where people mingle between heaven and earth, based on the Eastern idea of heaven , earth and man. The separation of the top, bottom, and middle lines in the shape of 'ㅍ' is intended to convey the meaning of 'open space' and represents a festival where heaven, earth, and people come together (the idea of heaven, earth, and humanity). The 'ㅊ', which looks like a snow crystal or star, is said to symbolize snow, ice, and winter sports stars. At the same time, it also expressed its intention to become a hub for winter sports in Asia. #
Considering that the emblem is seen not only by Koreans but also by foreigners, we think it's cool when we see a pattern with the alphabet engraved on it without knowing the meaning, but in English-speaking countries, it is just a word. Just as foreigners only see the shape without knowing the meaning of the Korean language , it is surprising that they use the Korean design. This tends to work for foreigners. Regarding the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics emblem, IOC Coordination Committee Chairman Lindberg commented that it is a very original, memorable, and favorite design, and that the emblem design appears to contain the meaning of friendship, excellence, and respect, which are important values of the Olympics. The organizing committee says that using the Winter Olympics and Paralympic logos simultaneously is not a violation of CI. However, when both emblems are used, they must be placed parallel to each other, and the official name must also be called '2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics.' This principle appears to be strictly applied on the Olympic website and major official product advertising posters, but some products can also be found with only the PyeongChang Olympics logo printed on them.[16]
4.2. Slogan
united passionPassion. Connected.
To mark 1,000 days before the opening in May 2015, the competition slogan ‘Passion. Connected. (United Passion)' was announced. A brand specialist company with a global network gathers ideas from copywriters from around the world and submits a candidate proposal. After a multi-faceted review by an advisory group comprised of domestic experts, 'Passion. Connected. It is said that it was confirmed as '(United Passion)'. It is meant to connect people around the world's sympathy for winter sports with everyone's unified passion, allow all generations to participate anytime and anywhere, and open a new horizon for the continued spread of winter sports. The first letters P and C of the slogan are also the initials of PyeongChang. #

2016 On June 2nd, the mascot characters for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics were decided to be 'Soohorang' and 'Bandabi'. The Soohorang and Bandabi mascots not only promoted the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games and symbolized the host country and city, but were also used as prizes at the awards ceremony. Born after many twists and turns, it was so popular and received rave reviews at home and abroad that it was said to be one of the biggest hits of the PyeongChang Olympics. This is quite surprising, as the mascots of the Olympics and World Cups held in the 21st century have rarely been popular with the public.[17]

This is an award given to medalists at the PyeongChang Olympics at the Medal Plaza.[18] |
September 21, 2017 Seoul It was released simultaneously at DDP and New York . The ribbon used was traditional silk from the host country, South Korea , and the circle border was decorated with the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics emblem . The surface has a comb pattern, and the side is embossed with the words ‘ㅍㅇㅊㅇㄷㅇㄱㅇㄹㄹㅁㅍㄱㅇㄱㅇㅇㅇㄹㅍㄹ’ from ‘Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Science and Technology and 18’, excluding the vowels. The comb pattern is embossed in Korean on the side. It was designed to be connected to consonants . Although there are different opinions, the general opinion is that the Korean design on the side is unique. Paralympic medals are largely the same as Olympic medals, but the comb pattern is horizontal, and the # side text has been changed to 'ㅍㅇㅊㅇㄷㅇㄱㅍㄹㄹㄹㅁㅍㄱㅇㄱㅇㅇㄹㅍㄹ', which is the consonant of 'Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games Arts and Crafts 18'. In addition, in accordance with Paralympic regulations, "Pyeongchang2018" (⠠⠏⠽⠑⠕⠝⠛⠉⠓⠁⠝⠛⠼⠃⠚⠁⠓ in Braille on the front)[image][20] ) was engraved.
Gold medal silver is made of 98.98% pure silver ( 580g) and 1.02% gold (6g). According to Forbes, the cost of pure precious metal materials is about 570 dollars (about 620,000 won). The silver medal is 580 grams of 100% pure silver and is equivalent to about $313. The bronze medal is 90% copper and 10% zinc and has a total weight of 493g. # However, no one will simply calculate the medal price based on the mineral market price.
Only 259 sets of medals for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics were produced, including 222 sets to be awarded to winners and 32 sets to be used in domestic and international exhibitions. # The total number of gold, silver, and bronze medals is 102 each, but the number of sets of medals to be awarded to the winners is 222 because there are several team competitions such as ice hockey, figure skating, curling, and bobsledding, and extras are needed in case there is a tie in the record or scoring competition and the same medal must be awarded to two or more people/teams. (In fact, the two people who finished third in the cross-country skiing women's 10 km free held on the 15th had exactly the same time of 25:32.4, so bronze medals were awarded to two people, and in the men's two-person bobsled race held on the 18th and 19th, the two first-place teams in the fourth combined result were exactly the same, with a time of 3:16.86, so gold medals were awarded to four people without silver medals. In addition, four people were awarded gold medals in open bobsledding. In the 4-man event, South Korea and Germany had the same overall record of 3:16.38, and silver medals were awarded to eight people without bronze medals.
In the Olympics, the same records of 1/100th of a second were recorded three times, and gold, silver, and bronze were awarded once. There was a joke that the design of the bronze medal was similar to Choco Daise . # Due to the low temperature of the Winter Olympics, only prizes (Soohorang wearing a royal coat of arms) are handed out to medalists at the stadium (Venue Ceremony), and the award ceremony for athletes who win medals (Victory Ceremony) is held at the Medal Plaza of the Olympic Plaza . # However, in accordance with custom, ice hockey was an exception and, like the Summer Olympics , the medal ceremony was held immediately at the rink after the finals. Among winter sports, ice hockey , unlike other sports, may not be able to accommodate more than 20 players on the podium. In addition, medal award ceremonies were held immediately on site for curling (men and women), four-man bobsleigh and speed skating mass start (men and women), where it was difficult to hold a separate award ceremony at the Medal Plaza because the games in which medals are decided are held on the last day or the night before the competition. For the cross-country 50km (men) and 30km (women) races, the official awards ceremony was held during the closing ceremony.
The podium symbolized white snow falling on the tile roof and dancheong of a hanok. # The awards ceremony uniforms worn by the awards staff also focused on conveying Korea's emotion, beauty, and affection to the world by fusing and combining East and West. A total of 4 types of award uniforms were produced for men and women, divided into snow and ice. The award ceremony staff will present awards wearing costumes inspired by Hanbok, which borrows the blue and red colors of the Taegeukgi and expresses Korean identity . Netizens also seem to have a favorable response to the design of the podium and award uniform. # The background music for the medal ceremony was created by composer Cho Young-soo , and is said to be based on a traditional rhythm that harmonizes instruments from all over the world and the East. #
4.6. torch relay
The torch was lit in Olympia, Greece on October 24, 2017, and arrived at Incheon International Airport via a Korean Air chartered flight on November 1, 2017 through Incheon International Airport. I circled the city of dogs. The total route length is 2,018 km, meaning 2018, and the total number of people sent is 7,500, meaning the population of South Korea and North Korea, 75 million.
4.7. typeface
Among the exclusive fonts used in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the English version is 'PyeongChang2018', used in the event logotype PyeongChang2018, and the Korean version is ' Yoongothic 700'. Usually, in Olympic design, a unique font is created for each competition and is used throughout the stadium and graphics such as logotypes, event names, guide signs, tickets, etc., but the organizing committee of this event did not develop a separate font. Of course, the English font, although exclusive to Pyeongchang 2018, is a normal sans serif, and the Korean font used an existing commercial font. It appears that the font was not developed completely new with the aim of reducing costs as much as possible within the limited budget , and some people expressed disappointment because the font was too ordinary compared to other competitions.

Hangeul letters expressed as snowflakes |
An image in which various words related to the Olympics were arranged in the shape of snowflakes was used for various backgrounds in the stadium and broadcast subtitles. In particular, the Korean alphabet was used in the shape of a snowflake. The design of the picketers' costumes and other costumes for the opening ceremony also received favorable reviews.

- 5 events on ice - speed skating , short track speed skating , figure skating , ice hockey , curling (32 gold medals)
- 7 snow events - Alpine skiing , cross-country skiing , freestyle skiing , Nordic combined , ski jumping , biathlon , snowboarding (61 gold medals)
A total of 102 gold medals are awarded. The alpine skiing team event, snowboarding big air, speed skating mass start, and curling mixed doubles were newly added, making it the first Winter Olympics to have a total of more than 100 gold medals.

Although it was named after Pyeongchang- gun, the actual games were also held in neighboring Gangneung-si and Jeongseon-gun . In general, snow sports events are held in Pyeongchang and Jeongseon, and ice sports events are held in Gangneung. It is very common for some games to be held not only in the host city but also in other regions within the same country, such as the Incheon Asian Games or the Seoul Olympics. In particular, in the case of the Winter Olympics, snow sports, especially alpine skiing, have no choice but to be held at mountain ski resorts. However, if a large number of ice rinks where ice skating games are held are built in the mountains, there is no way to utilize them after the Olympics are over, so ice skating sports are held in places where many people live, so they are almost always inevitably divided into two regions. (The only difference is how close these two regions are, and whether they are within or outside the same administrative district.) Whistler, where the snow sports at the Vancouver Winter Olympics were held, is about 125km away from downtown Vancouver in a straight line, and in the case of Beijing, China , Zhangjiakou , where the snow sports are held, is more than 200 km away from Beijing, where the ice sports are held![24] Compared to this, Pyeongchang and Gangneung are at the level of cuteness. The distance between Alpensia Resort and Gangneung Olympic Park is 24km, and the distance between Phoenix Park, the furthest point from Gangneung Olympic Park, is only 55km. In addition, these stadiums are connected by high-speed rail... The IOC also praised the fact that the stadiums in Pyeongchang and Gangneung are surprisingly close, and that the stadium has both an ice skating rink and a snow skating rink in close proximity, and a location where you can enjoy the sea and beautiful mountains at the same time. #[25]
Like the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, it was expected that both men's and women's games could be held at two ice hockey stadiums in the schedule. Upon checking the announced tournament schedule, it was generally consistent, but some games were assigned differently. It was originally scheduled to be built at Gangneung Yeongdong University , but the IOC expressed opposition due to the small size of the campus, so it was eventually moved to Catholic Kwandong University . One of the important topics when hosting a large-scale sports event such as the Olympics is how to utilize post-game facilities. In this regard, during the 2013 Pyeongchang Winter Special Olympics, a claim was made to host the 2019 Winter Universiade in Pyeongchang. The person who made this claim was none other than the president of the International University Sports Federation, and Pyeongchang also responded positively, so it seemed likely that the city would participate in the bid competition, but Pyeongchang was not included in the list of cities applying for the bid announced in April 2013. It appears that the preparation for the bid was canceled due to the tight schedule. Ultimately, the 2019 Winter Universiade moved to Krasnoyarsk , Russia. Meanwhile, there was talk that the 2021 Winter Asian Games might also be held in Pyeongchang. While Japan , China , and Kazakhstan , which have the infrastructure and economic power to host the Asian Winter Games, have already taken turns hosting the event, Korea has not hosted the Asian Winter Games since 1999, so it is implicitly assumed that it will be Korea's turn to host the event.
Among the Winter Olympics, Yongpyeong Resort and Gangneung Indoor Ice Skating Market were already held during the 1999 Winter Asian Games. Perhaps it was attracted to the rehearsal and inspection of the Winter Olympics. Moreover, for three years by 2021, Pyeongchang and Gangneung must maintain the existing facilities. Nevertheless, after -management and financial deficits are burdensome after the Olympics, and we are trying to maintain the facilities for three years, so it is not bad to hold the Winter Asian Games. Anyway, the Winter Asian Games are economical and climate, and there are only four countries that can be held in Korea, China, Japan, and Kazakhstan. It is also a situation. In fact, the Governor of Gangwon Province expressed his co -intention with North Korea on February 18, 2018, during the competition. # However, it is still unknown whether the repulsive public opinion will be successful. First of all, the venue for the Winter Asian Games in 2021 is still undecided. However, in 2020, Colona 19 , which was launched, began to avoid the hosting , and Gangwon also participated in this to cancel the application . Instead, he was interested in attracting the Winter Youth Olympics in 2024 and was eventually selected as the venue for the Winter Youth Olympics. The official name was decided by the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics and will be held in the same place as the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

In a special case, a ski jumping stadium is used as a soccer stadium. Of course, the goal posts are not set up on the runway, but are placed under the runway. In fact, since ski jumping can only be done in the winter, it is a reasonable use. As a side note, the Nagano Olympic Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics were held , was later renovated and used as a baseball stadium.[26] And in fact, on August 20, 2016, Gangwon FC , a K League Challenge team , played a professional soccer match here.[27] This was their home stadium until the 2017 season when they were promoted to the K League Classic, and they moved their home stadium after the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics opened. In late 2012, they had requested the organizing committee to allow them to host at least ice hockey events in Wonju . In fact, the plan for the first challenge in 2003, when they were aiming to host in 2010, was to hold ice hockey events in Wonju. The mayor's demand was to build a stadium in Wonju from the beginning rather than spend 80 billion won to demolish the games in Gangneung and move them to Wonju. However, the organizing committee announced that the stadium could not be relocated . # What's even worse is that Wonju National Assembly members also opposed the relocation because they were from different parties. Aside from the stadium, volunteers were assigned various accommodations from as far away as Goseong-gun , Sokcho-si , and even Samcheok-si .
6.2. Transportation to the stadium
Video of driving on the shortest route from Incheon International Airport to Pyeongchang Stadium |
On December 22, 2017, the Wonju-Gangneung section of the Gyeonggang Line was opened to connect traffic between the venues where the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics are held. For details, see the document and the Rail Traffic section below for holding effects. If you take the high-speed train directly from Incheon Airport and arrive at the Gyeonggang Line Station within 2 hours, then take the shuttle bus for about 10 to 30 minutes (30 minutes on foot in the case of Gangneung), you can reach the Winter Olympics right in front of the stadium. It provides a quick and convenient transportation experience that was not common. # Regarding this, the IOC members also expressed their satisfaction, saying that it was a quick and comfortable experience, and strongly recommended it to Olympic visitors. # With the opening of the Gangneung Line KTX , it is now possible to watch the Olympics on a day trip for those living in the metropolitan area, and foreigners can also watch the Olympics by staying in accommodations near Seoul with ample room conditions. #
However, despite having unprecedented transportation convenience to the stadium, the immature and careless operation of the public enterprise Korea Railroad Corporation led to protests from foreigners. First of all, the English reservation information on the KORAIL website is quite poor, and there is no separate reservation window for Olympic visitors, making it difficult to reserve tickets other than the Seoul-Gangneung Pass for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics . You can imagine the embarrassment of having to find the station name and reserve a ticket one by one, as the station list is listed in English. However, what became a bigger problem was the Pyeongchang Pass. Although it was sold for a huge price of 168,000 won for a 5-day pass, saying that you can freely select seats during the period of use, the problem arose because it did not disclose that it excludes the Lunar New Year holiday, when seat reservations are only possible after a separate reservation period. # Foreigners who have reserved stadium tickets and hotel accommodations are unable to find transportation during the period, and complaints from foreigners are continuing on the KORAIL bulletin board. # There is no stopping people from visiting their hometowns for the Lunar New Year holidays due to foreign guests, but the problem is that there was no notice about this when the Korea Railroad Corporation sold the Pyeongchang Pass. They even neglected customer service for foreigners who complained and requested refunds for over a week, leading to criticism for poor management even though they had built excellent infrastructure. #
The Pyeongchang and Gangneung areas where the game is held are at Hoenggye Terminal.[28] , you can also arrive by bus at Gangneung Terminal , and in fact, the Dongbu Express and Jungang Express temporarily operated temporary express buses from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Hoenggye Terminal from February 8 to March 19 during the Olympic and Paralympic Games period . It seems that foreigners have no choice but to prefer the railway, which can be reached quickly and directly, rather than the somewhat complicated bus.[29] During the Olympics, a security checkpoint was installed and operated at the KTX station on the Gangneung Line. In addition, all intercity bus routes arriving and departing Gangneung must pass through Hoenggye Terminal until the Paralympic Games period, and at one point, the Hoenggye-Gangneung route temporarily turned into a broom run. Incheon Airport Terminal 2 opened on January 18, 2018 as an “Olympic-tailored terminal” in time for the PyeongChang Olympics. # In addition, an international event screening booth has been created at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 to ensure that athletes can quickly undergo entry procedures. # Additionally, a traditional culture center was opened in Terminal 2, where visitors can showcase ‘Korean style’ and experience traditional culture first-hand. #
In line with the Olympics, a variety of road infrastructure was built, making it possible to get from Jinbu to Jeongseon in 30 minutes. # The shortest highway/highway route connecting Incheon Airport to the stadium is Incheon International Airport - Gonghang-ro - Airport New Town JC - 2nd Gyeongin Expressway - Daewon IC - Seongnam Icheon-ro ( National Road No. 3 ) - Chowol IC - Gwangju-Wonju Expressway - Wonju JC - Yeongdong Expressway . In addition to this route, you can use the Yeongdong Expressway directly from Incheon, or the Incheon International Airport Expressway-Olympic Expressway and the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway, which opened to Yangyang in 2017 , to reach Gangneung City, the host city, via the Donghae Expressway. If you go 30km further from Gangneung JC in the Incheon direction on the Yeongdong Expressway, you can reach Alpensia Resort, so traffic distribution can be expected. A shuttle bus connecting the railway station, bus terminal, and large transfer parking lot near the stadium in the host area to the stadium will operate starting February 8 to organically connect related facilities . # Anyone can ride without an admission ticket. # Additionally, free shuttle buses run until 2 a.m. to nearby cities such as Wonju, Sokcho, and Donghae . # These shuttle buses use vehicles from domestic tour bus companies, and most of them are Hyundai or Kia buses, so the Hyundai-Kia Motors emblem is included next to the phrase “Pyeongchang 2018” along with the competition emblem. However, Daewoo buses operate with their marks obscured.[30]
An Olympic-only road will also be operated during the Pyeongchang Olympic Games. # It is said that even if a lot of snow falls, the road is ready to completely clear 860km of the Olympic road in half a day. # During the Pyeongchang Olympics, highway tolls will also be exempted for vehicles using the entrance and exit roads near the stadium. (Including private highways) # However, when visiting by car, the odd-even system applies to all private vehicles entering the vicinity of the stadium. If you visit by personal vehicle, you can park in the large transfer parking lot provided at 7 locations during the Olympics and then take a shuttle bus to get to the stadium. # Since you can use shuttle buses as well as city buses in Pyeongchang and Gangneung for free, it is said to be more convenient to use public transportation than a private vehicle. # The organizing committee also urged people to use public transportation, saying it is more convenient. # The ‘ Go Pyeongchang ’ app has been created to provide easy-to-understand guidance on various connected transportation methods . It is said that anyone can quickly and easily find various Olympic-related facilities by using this app, and it is provided in four languages (Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese) to provide convenience to foreign users. #

- On December 5, 2017, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned the Russian Olympic Committee from participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics, while suspending the Russian Olympic Committee for its country-level doping scandal. The International Olympic Committee recommends that athletes from Russia, if they wish to compete, be considered as individuals.[38] It was announced that representatives could only be represented under the name of the Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR), which took the form of an independent Olympic team . Accordingly, Russian athletes will participate as Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) and will use the Olympic flag and Olympic anthem at the Games. The order of entry was also followed by Austria according to the 'ㅇ' in the Olympics .
- Australia was often called Australia in Korea and was named Australia, not Australia, and it was shown that it could be later than Hungary because it was displayed than ㅗ, but it was named Australia.
- Israel will stand between Italy and India at the opening ceremony, given their hostile relationship with Iran.
- Macedonia participates under the name of the Republic of Macedonia in Former Yugoslavia, taking into account the name dispute with Greece at the time . Macedonia enters between France and Finland at the opening ceremony.[39] It seems to have been taken from the initials FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia).
- Seven countries boycotted the 1988 Seoul Olympics[40] Countries including North Korea, Albania, and Madagascar will participate in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. South Africa also did not participate in the Seoul Olympics, but the nature of the event was slightly different as South Africa did not participate because it was excluded from the international sports world due to apartheid at the time. Additionally, Jamaica, famous for the movie Cool Runnings, will also have a women's bobsled team and skeleton team participating in the PyeongChang Olympics. In particular, the women's bobsled team is coached by Dudley Stokes, the real-life protagonist of Cool Running , and the bobsled sled used by the team is also named 'Cool Bolt', named after Cool Running and Jamaican track and field star Usain Bolt. .
- There have been rumors that several countries will not participate due to safety concerns due to the North Korean nuclear issue, but no country has officially announced that they will not participate. This issue is detailed in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics/Controversy document. It was considered highly likely that North Korea , the party involved in this issue, would not participate due to its precedent during the 1988 Seoul Olympics and its continued provocative actions. However, North Korea's participation was decided at the high-level inter-Korean meeting held in Panmunjom on January 9, 2018. Accordingly, North Korea participated in an international sports competition held in South Korea four years after the 2014 Incheon Asian Games .
- As North Korea participated, the women's ice hockey team will participate in the inter -Korean team, the Korea Team, and the opening ceremony was also named Korea and the South and North Korean teams were jointly entered with the Korean Peninsula. As a result, South Korea left the opening ceremony for the first time in the Olympic host country, and became the first Olympics in North Korean players.

7.5.1. Norway's overall win
Norway won the overall championship with 14 gold medals and 39 medals in total.[41] Germany and Norway , who took second place, were in a close race with 13 gold medals each until the morning of February 25th, the last day of the closing ceremony. However, because Norway had more silver medals, it was Norway that took first place. However, on the last day, the 25th, Germany seemed to have won the overall championship by winning gold and silver medals in the men's four-man bobsleigh event. In the men's ice hockey final that followed, Germany vs. Russia, Germany took a 3-2 lead and seemed to have a complete victory, but with less than a minute left in the game, Russia scored the equalizer and Russia scored the golden goal in overtime. miraculously won the gold medal, and Germany won the silver medal in tears. Up to this point, Germany had 14 gold medals and 10 silver medals, and Norway had 13 gold medals and 14 silver medals, so Germany was the overall winner, and there was only one race left before the end, and that race was the women's cross-country 30km team start . Norwegian cross-country legend Marit Bjergen would participate in the race. She won 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals in previous competitions, making her the most medalist at the Winter Olympics with a total of 14 medals. As expected, Bjergen crossed the finish line two minutes ahead of the second-place finisher. He set a record of 8 gold medals and 15 medals in total at the Winter Olympics. In addition, the final match of the Pyeongchang Olympics ended, and Norway won the overall championship with 14 gold medals.
7.5.2. Performance of other participating countries
A total of 30 out of 92 participating countries won at least one medal at this event. This is the highest ever in Winter Olympics history.
- Russia and Belarus were dropped from the top 10 of the previous tournament, and Korea and Sweden entered. In Norway , which was classified as the strongest candidate for the championship along with Germany and Canada in this competition, the Lillehammer Children , who were in their heyday, took first place overall.[42] They sprinted and rewrote the best Winter Olympic results in their country's history and in the entire Olympic history. Germany also competed with Norway for the overall rankings until the end, proving that it was not a candidate for the overall championship at the Winter Olympics for nothing. The Netherlands also won 7 gold medals in speed skating alone, and won its first gold medal in short track speed skating as well, recording 5th overall with 8 gold medals like 4 years ago, proving that the performance in Sochi was no coincidence.
- In Japan , Yuzuru Hanyu and Nao Kodaira comfortably won gold medals, and Nana Takagi won gold medals in speed skating women's team pursuit and women's mass start, finishing 11th, except for the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics held at home. Reaped. This record is a record in the history of Japanese winter sports, as Japan has never won more than two gold medals in a single event, except for the Nagano Winter Olympics held at home.
- Russia (participating as OAR ), the host country and overall winner of the last competition , was reduced to a weak-willed brown bear , winning 2 gold medals, 9 fewer than the previous Olympics held at home, and ranked 13th in the overall ranking (including the times in the Soviet Union and Russia). It achieved the lowest score ever. At least they took pride in winning the gold medals in women's figure skating and men's ice hockey, which they had promised before the competition, but they performed poorly as the medal candidates were unable to come to Pyeongchang due to the state-led doping scandal of the Russian national team . In short, self-employed.
- China, the host country for the next competition, also suffered from an unexpected slump, winning only one gold medal. China performed poorly in the short track, which had been a medal field, with a number of disqualifications. Fortunately, no gold was avoided with Wu Da-jing 's gold medal in the short track race , and promising prospects were released in several events.[43] There is an atmosphere of comfort in the significance of promoting the Beijing Winter Olympics .
- The United States ranked 4th overall, much better than China or Russia, but also performed somewhat poorly compared to other overall winners such as Norway, Germany, and Canada. Starting with winning three gold medals out of four in the halfpipe alone.[44] There were some unexpected achievements, such as winning gold medals for the first time in cross- country and men's curling .[45] Among the gold medal candidates, Mikaela Shiffrin failed to win a medal in the main event , Lindsey Vonn only took bronze, and in figure skating, Nathan Chen was unable to overcome jet lag and pressure, finishing in 5th place. The 23 overall medals won by the U.S. was the lowest performance in the U.S. Winter Olympics in 20 years since the 13 won in Nagano 1998 . Since Turin 2006 , Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, the team has won 9 gold medals.
- Canada ranked high in the overall overall standings, but failed to win gold medals for either men or women in ice hockey and curling , Canada's two prided sports. In the case of ice hockey, the women's team won a silver medal and the men's team won a bronze medal. The men's team shocked Germany by losing in the semifinals, and had to settle for a bronze medal. And, the women's ice hockey team was humiliated by losing to their biggest rival, the United States, in the final. In curling, both men and women went through the humiliation of no medals, but they saved face by winning a gold medal in the new sport, Curling Mixed Doubles. Anyway, with only these two events (since both ice hockey and curling matches were held in Gangneung), it is almost impossible to call it a Gangneung shock or a Gangneung disaster . No, considering Canada's status in these two events, it is safe to say that it is a record that erases the good performance in other sports.
- North Korea, which participated after many twists and turns, failed to win a medal. Of course, in North Korea, the only figure skating pair that earned the right to participate in the Olympics on their own was Ryom Dae-ok and Kim Joo-sik, and they were also far from medalists, so it was a natural result. The best result was 13th place, recorded by Ryom Dae-ok and Kim Joo-shik.
- Italy , which had to accept a shocking result of no gold in the last tournament, recovered to some extent from the poor performance of the last tournament by winning three gold medals and ranking 12th overall. Sweden, which only won two gold medals in the previous competition, also achieved its best medal performance ever in Pyeongchang with 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 1 bronze medal, and 6th place in the overall ranking. On the other hand, Belarus , which had surprisingly risen to the top 10 in the last competition by winning five gold medals thanks to the outstanding performance of biathlon's Darya Domracheva, fell to 15th place overall this time, with Domracheva only winning one gold and one silver medal .
- In this Olympics, there were an unusually large number of countries that won Winter Olympic medals in a long time.
- Spain won its first Winter Olympics medal in 26 years since Albertville 1992, with Regino Hernández in men's snowboard cross and Javier Fernández in men's figure skating singles winning bronze medals.
- Liechtenstein won a bronze medal in the women's alpine skiing giant slalom, with Tina Weirater winning the medal for the first time in 30 years since Calgary 1988 .
- New Zealand 's women's snowboarding big air's Joey Sadowski Sinnott and freestyle skiing's men's halfpipe's Nico Porteus won bronze medals, winning medals at the Winter Olympics for the first time in 26 years since Albertville in 1992 .
- Hungary won the short track speed skating men's 5000m relay for 38 years after the 1980 Lake Flash and won the first gold medal in the Winter Olympics.[46]
- Belgium won a medal for the first time in 20 years since Nagano 1998, with Bart Swings taking silver in the men's mass start in speed skating .[47]
- In the men's skeleton, Dom Parsons won a bronze medal, securing a medal for the first time in 70 years since St. Moritz in 1948 , and in the women's skeleton, Lizzie Yarnold won gold for the second time in a row following Sochi 2014.[48] , Furthermore, Laura Deese won her bronze medal, proving that she is a true skeleton powerhouse .
7.6. Olympic records
- In bobsleigh , a rare sight was created: a joint gold medal and a joint silver medal. In the two-person event, Germany's Francesco Friedrich-Thorsten Margis pair and Canada's Justin Cripps-Alexander Koppachi paired the final time of 3:16:86, with a difference of 1/100th of a second, and shared the gold medal. In addition, in the men's 4-seater, Won Yoon-jong's team from Korea and Nico Walter's team from Germany tied for the silver medal with a time of 3:16:38.
- There were two athletes who won medals in different sports at the same time in the same event, and both are female athletes.
- Esther Ledecka of the Czech Republic became the first in Olympic history to win gold medals in two different events (alpine skiing and snowboarding). Besides, he never thought he would win a medal in skiing, which is not his main sport, so he became even more famous when he was interviewed wearing goggles for not wearing makeup.
- Jorin Thermos of the Netherlands won gold in the women's 1000m speed skating and bronze in the women's 3000m relay in short track speed skating.
- Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu became the first figure skater in 66 years to win two consecutive men's singles titles.
- The athletes who won the most gold medals were French biathlete Martin Purcard and Norwegian cross-country runner Johannes Hösflot Klebo , who each won three gold medals.
- The Tessa Virtue / Scott Moyer team became legendary after winning the most Olympic medals in ice dance history.
- The Gabriela Papadakis / Guillaume Cizeron team exceeded 200 points in total for the fourth consecutive time in an ISU-sanctioned competition.
- Noriaki Kasai achieved his eighth consecutive Olympic appearance.
7.7. Weather and forecast for competition period
The winter of 2017-2018 was very cold.[49] There are concerns that it will be the coldest Olympics ever, but it is said that it is better to be cold when the games are held, even if it is not during the opening ceremony. # It is because the optimal temperature for the best snow and ice quality for athletes' best performance is between -10 and -5 degrees Celsius. # For the Winter Olympics, it is more fatal for the warm weather to continue, and if it rains here, there will be no answer in the case of snow sports... In fact, during the 2006 Torino, 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi Olympics, the warm weather significantly hinders the progress of the games. Rather, the climate of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics is expected to become the best weather for athletes to compete in the Olympics for the first time in a long time, if the wind is calm. The best quality of snow and ice means that the possibility of setting new world records in both record and scoring competitions increases.
The Winter Olympics are very sensitive to weather conditions due to the nature of the games. In outdoor snow sports such as skiing, records depend on the quality of the snow, and in sports such as ski jumping, the direction of victory changes depending on wind conditions. Even ski jumping can threaten the athlete's safety if there is a strong tailwind (wind blowing toward the athlete's back) at the jumping point. However, contrary to popular belief, natural snow is said to be not very good for snow sports. Fluffy natural snow may be good for the general public to ski, but for athletes, skis or boards get buried in the snow, making it difficult to move at speed, making it difficult to change direction quickly, and increasing the risk of injury. It is said to be called "pretty trash" as it hinders athletes from recording optimal performance. # It is said that if natural snow accumulates on a slope built with artificial snow, it must be removed immediately. However, natural snow is better than rain, and if natural snow is too thin, it can be problematic to obtain water to make artificial snow due to drought, so too little natural snow can be a problem.
Pyeongchang-gun and the Baekdudaegan region in Gangwon- do belong to a cold and humid climate among the central regions of Korea. The average snowfall in February in the Pyeongchang area from 2011 to 2017 was 5.6cm, and the maximum snowfall was 43.5cm. In the Gangneung area, the average is 8.3 cm and the maximum is 77.7 cm. It is said that 'snow bombs' come occasionally... (Exactly four years ago, during the period when the Sochi Olympics were held, this region was almost paralyzed by record-breaking heavy snowfall , so if Pyeongchang had been invited to host the event at that time, there would have been no answer.) Like this. If it snows, natural snow must be immediately removed from the stadium and nearby roads. Related article Artificial snow at regular ski resorts and Olympic ski stadiums are different in density. In the case of regular ski resorts, when water is replaced with snow, the volume increases five times, but in the case of Olympic ski resorts, even if the same amount of water is replaced with snow, the snow particles are much denser and harder. Therefore, it is said that the volume only increases by 1.7 times. Strictly speaking, it is somewhere between snow and ice. In the case of Jeongseon Alpine Stadium, it is said that 1.3 million m2 of snow must be made, which is equivalent to piling snow 100 meters high in an area the size of a soccer field. # I don't know what kind of magic he is doing, but the world's best expert in artificial snow course design, who can build snowy slopes even at 20 degrees Celsius (!), has joined the Pyeongchang Olympics . # According to this person, the current temperature and humidity in Pyeongchang (early February 2018) are the best for snow quality.
The real problem is that of the general audience attending the opening ceremony, etc. Since you will have to watch the opening ceremony and games outdoors in the cold, cold protection measures are essential. In particular, the opening ceremony was a point of controversy long before the Olympics opened. This part is mentioned in 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics/Controversy . In fact, this problem arose not because of the weather or temperature, but because the opening ceremony was decided to be held in an open stadium without a roof to save budget. Because of this, not only was the temperature a problem, but even snow or rain could cause major disruption to the opening ceremony, so I looked up at the sky. Amazingly, the sky seemed to have helped. The temperature at the Olympic Plaza, where the minimum temperature ranged from -20 to -15 degrees Celsius until two days before the opening ceremony, rose the day before the opening ceremony, and on the opening day of February 9th, the maximum temperature rose to +2 degrees in clear or slightly cloudy weather, and on the evening of the opening ceremony . It was predicted that the temperature would be around -2℃ to -4℃ from 8 to 10 o'clock . # And after it snowed right at dawn the next day... the temperature dropped again and the lowest temperature was expected to be -15 degrees on the 12th, three days after the opening, so it was really heavenly to see that the weather seemed to be in line with the schedule on the day of the opening ceremony .
Even after the opening ceremony, there was almost no bad weather that would interfere with the competition itself. In particular, it is fortunate that the heavy snow that often falls in the Yeongdong region does not fall in February. (Afterwards, on March 5th, between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, heavy snowfall of more than 20 cm fell.) However, due to strong winds on many days throughout the competition period, some outdoor competitions were postponed, and the preliminary round was canceled, forcing the finals to be held at a later date. Problems such as reducing the number of times occurred, but[50] , This is a common case in other previous Winter Olympics. The only thing that was slightly affected was February 14th, when the strong winds were particularly severe, causing damage to several external facilities, including the superstore, and temporary buildings built with tents, such as restaurants and on-site press rooms, were temporarily closed due to safety concerns. (Of course, all snow sports on this day were postponed.) The closing ceremony was also held under clear and relatively warm weather. In addition, in order to provide accurate weather forecasts during the Olympics, a meteorological aircraft will fly over Pyeongchang every day from February 6, 2018 to perform aerial observation tasks, and 10 balloon-mounted weather observation equipment 'Dropsondes' will be installed every day in the East Sea. Drop it to prepare for abnormal weather such as heavy snow. # Because the weather is an important variable in the Winter Olympics, customized 'microscopic forecasts' are implemented for each venue and time zone. #

South Korea initially set out the so-called 8484 based on the home advantage just before the competition, and 8 gold, 4 silver, 8 bronze, and 4th overall ranking were the target scores for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. However, in the short track, which was considered a gold medal garden, they harvested fewer gold medals than their original target, and the number of gold medals was 5, ranking 7th overall. In terms of the number of gold medals, there was one less than the six in Turin in 2006 and Vancouver in 2010.
However, the total number of medals was 17, and it succeeded in recording the highest number of medals in the history of the Winter Olympics in Korea. In particular , medals came out in a total of six events, unlike the past, when short track speed skating was unbalanced .[56] It was the first Asian country to win medals in bobsleigh and skeleton, which are sledding events, and achieved the best results in curling as an Asian country. And they succeeded in winning medals more widely than in the past, including medals in snow events that they had never won before. It also became the first event to win more medals in speed skating than in short track speed skating.
While granting Korean citizenship to many foreign players through the special naturalization system, we paid a lot of attention to sports that had not been successful in the past, but failed to win medals among naturalized players. Naturalized athletes with the best results include Eileen Frisch , who was naturalized from Germany and competed as a luge representative , and Timofei Lapsin, who was naturalized from Russia and competed as a biathlon representative . All records have been changed.
9. broadcast
9.1. Relay broadcasting and coverage
It became the first Olympics in the world where the opening and closing ceremonies and major games were broadcast in 4K UHD . In addition to UHD, the world's first 5G mobile communication pilot service was introduced and IoT, AI, and VR were actively utilized. # On January 31, 2018, the Main Press Center (MPC) officially opened. It consists of three buildings, MPC 1 where the media common area is located, MPC 2 where the press conference hall with 500 seats is located, and Yonhap News Agency, the news agency in charge of this event, as well as the Associated Press of the United States, AFP of France, Reuters of the United Kingdom, and Xinhua News Agency of China. It consists of MPC3, which houses 33 media companies, including Kyodo News of Japan and The New York Times of the United States . The International Broadcasting Center (IBC), which opened on January 9, 2018, is comprised of OBS , the Olympic broadcaster, SBS , the Korean broadcaster , and NBC , the U.S. broadcaster . More than 10,600 officials from 60 broadcasting stations around the world participated. IBC, where approximately 7,000 people will reside, is a five-story building with a total floor area of 51,204 m2 (15,490 pyeong), of which the broadcasting area is 34,000 m2 (12,800 pyeong), the largest in the history of the Winter Olympics.
In particular, NBC , the American broadcaster, is said to have spent 1 trillion won to broadcast the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, and 2,400 production crews are said to have swept up luxury hotels. # In addition, the broadcasting and production area alone was 12,756㎡, accounting for 25% of the IBC area. A total of 2,400 hours of broadcasting was conducted, including games of all 15 sports, athlete interviews, and special features, including the 2014 Sochi Olympics (1,600 hours) It was said to be similar in size to the combined broadcast time of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics (835 hours), so it was easy to see how much NBC was focusing on broadcasting the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. As you can guess from the total broadcast time, NBC broadcasted all games live at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics for the first time in U.S. Olympic broadcast history .[57] In the end, NBC has already recovered its investment costs through advertising revenue alone, setting the record for the largest advertising sales of any Winter Olympics ever at $900 million (KRW 987.2 billion) even before the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics have even opened. # As a side note, the main press center's cleaning robot became so popular that foreign reporters rushed to capture it on camera. #
9.2. Relay broadcasting in Korea
Special page by broadcaster[58]
- Right Holding Broadcaster (RHB)
- Host National News Agency: Yonhap News
SBS has already secured exclusive broadcasting rights across the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea, until 2024 through an exclusive contract in 2011. It is a broadcasting right for all media platforms, but due to universal viewing rights, it is not broadcasted independently, but is resold to KBS and MBC , and the three terrestrial broadcasters jointly broadcast it. Naver , Kakao (Daum), and Afreeca TV also finalized transmission fee negotiations with SBS and broadcasted the game through the Internet through Naver TV, Daum Sports, and KakaoTalk Channel Tab, respectively. In the case of Naver, it is known that SBS initially requested a transmission fee of 5 billion won, 10 times that of the Sochi Olympics, but adjusted it during negotiations to about 2.5 billion won, which is half the amount. # However, it is reported that negotiations are difficult as SBS is demanding higher prices from the three telecommunication companies that want to broadcast through mobile IPTV. KT's negotiations were concluded about a week before the competition, SK Broadband's negotiations were concluded a day before the competition, and LG U+'s negotiations were concluded only in the afternoon of the competition. Accordingly, it was possible to watch the Olympic live broadcast and Olympic VOD on Oksusu (SKT), Olleh TV Mobile (KT), and Uplus video portal (LG Uplus), but Uplus did not provide free data benefits due to the late conclusion of negotiations. .
In the past, there was a fight between terrestrial broadcasters due to SBS ' sole broadcasting, but since the emergence of general programming , the three terrestrial broadcasters have established a united front. On the contrary, there is a conflict with the Korea Communications Commission regarding the sale of news footage to news channels and general programming channels . Non-broadcasting rights holders can only report for up to 6 minutes per day according to guidelines. As this is the second Olympics held in Korea , 4 terrestrial broadcasters The channel is expected to operate a permanent broadcasting system. In particular, as the strike at MBC and KBS, which took place in the second half of last year, entered a phase of settlement, the broadcast disruption that had been feared no longer occurred. In addition to the four channels, highlight-focused broadcasts were carried out on sports channels operated by three terrestrial broadcasters.
The women's ice hockey match between Korea and Japan was broadcast simultaneously . In addition, events where Korean athletes have a high chance of winning medals, such as short track , speed skating , and skeleton , were broadcast simultaneously by the three terrestrial broadcasters. However, the women's ice hockey and curling matches, in which a unified team from the two Koreas was formed, were broadcast sequentially by the three terrestrial broadcasters. MBC broadcasted the first women's ice hockey match, and SBS broadcasted the first men's ice hockey match. SBS, which has shown strength in winter sports broadcasting, including the 2010 exclusive broadcast, has replaced some of its commentators, but it still has a large commentator staff including Bae Sung-jae , Bae Ki-wan , and Jung Woo -young , as well as Jeon I-kyung and Bang Sang-ah. In addition, as the main broadcaster for this Olympics, it has more broadcast and commentator staff than KBS or MBC. MBC, which had been relying on freelancers for sports commentary amid the chaos, also gritted its teeth and brought in announcers Heo Il-hoo and Kim Na- jin, who had been mostly excluded from commentary until then, to join the main commentary team, and recruited Professor Kang Kwang-bae , who appeared in the Infinite Challenge bobsleigh special , and former SBS commentator Ahn Sang-mi. However, since many of the announcers lacked sports commentary experience , they drafted Jeong Byeong-mun and Jeong Yong-geom from subsidiary M-Spl . KBS , which had just ended its strike, returned existing sports commentary announcers Kim Hyeon -tae , Choi Seung- don , and Lee Kwang -yong to their posts. For commentary, they recruited Olympic medalists Jin Seon-yu , Lee Jeong-soo , and Lee Kang-seok . It is notable that entertainer Park Jae-min has joined the snowboard commentary team. Ironically, SBS , which has exclusive Olympic broadcasting rights for the entire Korean peninsula, had the shortest broadcasting time among the three terrestrial broadcasters, and when looking at each channel, MBC actually broadcasted more.[60] KBS , as always, aired popular events and events with strong medal prospects, such as short track and speed skating, on TV 2, while airing unpopular events on TV 1.

9.3.2. viewer ratings, broadcast overall rating
- SBS : Previously, major events such as the Figure Skating World Championships , Short Track World Cup , and World Championships were simultaneously broadcast live by SBS Sports and SBS . In addition, most of the casters such as Bae Ji -wan (short track/figure skating), Bae Seong -jae (speed skating/skeleton), Jung Woo -young (ice hockey/bobsleigh), and Yun Seong -ho (snowboard) have been broadcasting, which made it more familiar to viewers at the Olympics. It can be said that this was a factor in the ratings victory.
- KBS : It did better than expected and KBS took the record for highest viewer ratings. The match featuring Lee Sang-hwa and Choi Min-jung took first place and recorded the highest viewer ratings. Although it was not as good as SBS, the viewer ratings were higher than expected due to the competition with SBS. In addition, the know-how and expertise of the sportscasters could be seen, and the commentators were also evaluated for making a good save by showing professionalism that was comparable to that of SBS.[88] KBS has long broadcasted sports in the afternoon hours, so its casters and commentators have gained a lot of experience. And the announcers' vocalization and basic prayer were the best among the three. For reference, KBS has high viewership ratings in the summer, that is, during soccer, the World Cup, the Summer Olympics, and the Asian Games.
- MBC : Following Sochi, it fell last. There was also a problem such as the neglect of the winter sports relay, and the aftermath of the union strikes was too prepared.[89] The opening -sized subtitles were compelled with information errors, and even the information was more insignificant than other companies. In addition, the MBC also had a great political impact, and since the Lee Myung -bak and the Park Geun -hye administration , the image of 'unfair broadcasting station' has been embedded around the progressive group. In fact, during the conservative regime, there were all the notorious science reports such as the explicit game killing reports, such as the 'PC room experiment' , and the notoriously notorious science reports such as 'the thickness and political beliefs' and 'sausage bread' on rainy day, and the Sewol ferry accident or Choi Soon -sil's national farming affair or the Park Geun -hye government's side Due to the behavior, the image was worse for the middle and progressives. After the launch of the Moon Jae-in government and the change of the president, it has been greatly improved in terms of unfair reports, but the JTBC Newsroom , which is represented by the Son Seok-hee and Park Geun-hye and Choi Soon-sil gate scoop, will be in trouble as long as the middle and progressive viewers are preempted. In addition, there were problems such as mistakes such as Kim Mi -hwa in the opening ceremony and Kim Sung -joo , who had been proven as a sports caster .[90] Heil -hoo and Kim Na -jin, who were the main caster of the tournament, were not ready to relay.[91] In addition, when Snowboard Lee Sang-ho won the silver medal on the 24th, KBS and SBS gave a relay, but MBC did not relay . It was broadcasting music center .[92] Speed skating Kim Tae -yoon's bronze medal Gyeonggi -do KBS and SBS played until the end, but MBC broke the broadcast before the bronze medal was confirmed and turned it into a curling, and the women's ice hockey finals were cut off on the 22nd.

There is also a level in the Olympic sponsorship . In addition to the World Wide Partner , which has been a sponsor after signing an official agreement with the IOC , there are official partners and sponsors through agreements with the Pyeongchang Organizing Committee, which are divided into three tiers (official partners, official sponsors, official suppliers). Currently, the IOC official Olympic partner is one company. It is Samsung Electronics . It is a partner in the field of wireless communication and computer equipment, not all of Samsung Electronics. Since 1998, it has been participating in a row, but it only participated in the wireless communication sector, but since this tournament, it has expanded to IT products such as tablets, laptops, and desktop PCs.[93] Panasonic has been in charge of partners in the field of video equipment since 1987 , but Samsung's TVs are exclusively supplied to this competition through strategic deal with Samsung Electronics.[94] McDonald 's is the first Olympics to give up his worldwide partner. It has been sponsored for 40 years since the 1976 Montreal Olympics, but he gave up his worldwide partner as he deteriorated management . However, he works as an official partner with low level 1. The new worldwide partners, on behalf of McDonald's, include Alibaba Group , Bridge Stone , Intel and Toyota . As Toyota participated as an Olympic World Wide Partner , there was a controversy that Hyundai Motor , the same car , could not be a sponsor. Toyota has signed a partner contract with the goal of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics . The IOC recognized the exception in consideration of the specificity of Korea -Japan relations, and Toyota also accepted it, and Hyundai Motor signed a sponsor contract with the official partner. 10.1.1. Worldwide Olympic Partner
Alibaba Group, a partner in the e-commerce and cloud service fields, and Intel , which signed a contract on behalf of McDonald's as a partner in the high-tech field, have acted as worldwide partners from this competition. Panasonic , which has been a partner in the video/audio equipment field since 1987, decided to supply TVs to Samsung Electronics through a strategic deal with Samsung Electronics for this competition. However, the advertising TVs installed in Medal Plaza and other places were supplied by Panasonic. Samsung Electronics , especially its wireless division, has been a partner in the wireless communications field since 1998. Because of this, all athletes who participate in the Olympics are supplied with the latest models of Samsung Electronics mobile phones. (The model distributed this time was the Galaxy Note 8 , and at the Rio Olympics it was the Galaxy S7 Edge .) It was also an Olympic limited edition. Since 2018, the field has expanded into computer equipment, and it has also been in charge of supplying TVs for this competition only. Toyota has also participated as a partner in the automotive field since 2017 . Considering Korea-Japan relations , etc. , no major promotional activities were carried out through an agreement with Hyundai Motor Group .

Therefore, the Olympic Games of the PlayStation series, Xbox series, and PC, which had been discontinued at the London Olympics, are finally revived at this Olympics. Conversely, when Sega released the license, Mario and Sonic ceased to exist.
- Unlike Rio, there is no mobile game news. According to the analysis in this article , it is presumed to be due to the Olympic's strict licensing. In addition to the license acquisition problem, there are many things that are not compatible with current mobile games, such as the strict restriction on charging elements. didn't come out in the end.
11. controversies and incidents
12. evaluation
13. digression
- For the first time in the 122th Olympics ( 1896 ~ 2018 ), the opening ceremony and the head of the state at the closing ceremony were almost different . If the 18th President Park Geun -hye had filled his term,[105] 2018 when the closing ceremony is held This is because February 25 was scheduled for the inauguration of the 19th presidential election . In this case, the term of the 19th president of the 19th president began at 0 o'clock on February 25 at the time, so even if the inauguration ceremony was delayed, the 19th presidential candidate would have attended the closing ceremony, not the president of the president. No matter how big the Olympics are, they can't control the president's term, so IOC, which listened to the Korean government at that time, said that it would fully understand.
- However, due to the Park Geun-hye-Choi Soon-sil scandal, former President Park Geun- hye was removed from office for the first time in constitutional history, and the 19th presidential election was held earlier than scheduled in 2017. Since it took effect on May 9 , the opening ceremony was held with the elected 19th President Moon Jae- in inaugurated. In the end, former President Park Geun-hye ended up watching the Olympics on TV from prison , and avoided the worst-case scenario of the Olympics being held without a head of state like the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics .
- At the Olympic Closing Ceremony, the closing ceremony is declared by the IOC President.[106] There is nothing in particular that the head of state must do at the closing ceremony. In fact, you can often find examples where the head of state did not attend the Olympic closing ceremony.[107] In a not-too-distant case, during the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, Queen Elizabeth II of England made the opening declaration in person, but did not attend the closing ceremony because she had no official duties, and the Prime Minister attended instead. In summary, attendance is not compulsory as a courtesy and cannot replace the work of the IOC President, but there are no provisions to stop the head of state of the host country from saying a word during the ceremony. Anyway, after President Park Geun-hye was dismissed from office on March 10, 2017, it all became meaningless.
- The South Korean government decided to invite all former presidents to the opening ceremony, but among the living former presidents, except for former President Lee Myung-bak, all of them, Chun Doo-hwan , Roh Tae-woo , and Park Geun-hye , were stripped of the honor.[108] , the only person who actually receives an invitation is former President Lee Myung- bak. Furthermore, even that one person is under investigation by the prosecution as a suspect, so the situation is strange. However, the investigation is still ongoing, and above all, it was during the Lee Myung-bak administration that the right to host the Olympics was won, and former President Lee Myung-bak himself contributed to the Pyeongchang bid to some extent, so it cannot be an issue that he will attend the opening ceremony. The investigation authorities announced that they are considering summoning him after the Olympics are over, considering this point, and former President Lee Myung-bak ended up attending.
- As the joint entrance has been decided, attention is being paid to who will enter carrying the Korean Peninsula flag. The last competition to have a joint entrance before this competition was the 2007 Changchun Winter Asian Games , where men, women, and North and South athletes entered in that order, so the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will have men, women, and South athletes entering in that order. South Korea's joint flag bearer has been decided to be bobsleigh pilot Won Yun-jong. As for North Korea's joint flag bearer, more than half of the 22 North Korean athletes, 12 of them, are members of the women's ice hockey team, so it was expected that one of the women's ice hockey team members would be the North Korean joint flag bearer. In the end, North Korean women's ice hockey player Hwang Chung-gum was selected as the joint flag bearer along with Won Yun-jong. #
- At the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, large quantities of condoms were distributed free of charge to athletes. As shown in the condom document, it is customary for international competitions, including the Olympics, to prepare condoms to ensure safe sex and physical condition for athletes. There are a total of 110,000, of which 100,000 were donated by Convenience, a Korean condom manufacturer, and 10,000 were donated by the Korea AIDS Prevention Association.
- The Korea mark, which disappeared after the 2014 Sochi Olympics, was used only for the unified South-North team.
- The first Olympics held after the Jincheon Athletes' Village was completed were the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
- Unlike the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics , which were ridiculed as spring Olympics, this year's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics has become a Winter Olympics in the true sense of the word . In the case of the previous two cities, temperatures often rise above 10 degrees Celsius even in February, but in Pyeongchang-gun , it snows even in April or May, which is spring.[109] This is because it is a place that boasts extreme cold . In fact, when the opening ceremony dress rehearsal took place on February 3, the weather that day was around -10 degrees, but the wind blew so the perceived temperature was close to -20 degrees. Still, the temperature rose significantly the day before the opening ceremony, returning to normal temperature levels, and the perfect weather for the Winter Olympics was maintained until the closing ceremony. However, little snow fell throughout the country throughout February, and it was not until the end of February that rain reached nearly 90% of the average monthly precipitation.
- Pride House , which was well-received at the Vancouver Winter Olympics and then installed at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, was not built at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The Russian government pushed for anti-homosexuality policies, and numerous human rights and sexual minority civic groups around the world protested against this, resulting in a major boycott of Russia. This is precisely the reason why many world leaders refused to participate in the opening ceremony and other events. Pride House was operational again at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, and is currently being prepared for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. In Korea, the Korea LGBT Culture and Human Rights Center operated Pride House together with Pride House International.
- During the Olympics, the Lunar New Year holiday overlapped from February 15th (Thursday) to February 18th (Sunday) .[110]
- Since Visa Card is the official sponsor of the Olympics, only cash or Visa credit/debit cards can be used to pay for reservations and souvenir purchases at the Olympics. When paying for tickets, it is recognized as Interpark, a ticket sales agency, and when purchasing souvenirs, Lotte Department Store is recognized and domestic payments are made. When making reservations through the official internet site, there is no cash and there is no way to pay other than a Visa card, so people who only have cards from other companies give the ticket price in cash to an acquaintance who has a Visa card among people around them when purchasing tickets. It is said that he borrowed a person's Visa card and paid for the reservation.
- Yang Ki-dae The Gwangmyeong City Sports Association, chaired by the head of Gwangmyeong City, recruited volunteers for the North Korean team for the first time in the country.
- The Nordic combined event, which is the most difficult and difficult of all Winter Olympics events and did not have a women's event until the end, is the last Olympics where only the men's event will be held. Beginning with the next Olympics, the Beijing Winter Olympics, a new women's event was established.
- Dudley Stokes, one of the real-life characters in the movie Cool Runnings, participated as the coach of the Jamaican women's national bobsleigh team. And, the Jamaican national team entered with the national flag while dancing exuberantly. #
- The Pyeongchang Olympics will likely remain an Olympics without an official theme song. Many people think that ' Let Everyone Shine ' , the torch relay commemorative song sung by Insuni , is the Olympic theme song, but unfortunately, this song is not the official theme song. There were many people who expected a masterpiece of the Seoul Olympic theme song ' Hand in hand ', so it was regrettable. If there was an official theme song, Jeon In-kwon and Ha Hyun- woo would have sung it instead of 'Imagine' at the opening ceremony.[111]
- On February 8, 2018, the BBC uploaded a trailer for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
- Images of heads of state, including presidents, prime ministers, and kings visiting Korea to observe the Olympics, were widely shared on social media. Not only did they meet and encourage their country's players at official events, but there were also many simple appearances, such as eating with citizens at an ordinary restaurant or taking commemorative photos in the Soohorang pose.
- The New Zealand national team drew attention by inscribing their country name in Korean on their uniforms.
- As if seeing North Korea's group cheering overseas strangely, he followed along with the audience at the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Video and, regarding the mask cheering, Guillermo, one of the hosts of Jimmy Kimmel's show, came out and showed a surprising reaction. #
- Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe 's last visit to Korea was the PyeongChang Olympics.
- The statue at the entrance of the athlete's village gained cult-like popularity on the Japanese web and began to be used as a gag material. Refer to the bullet man documentation.
- In addition, it has become a hot topic because it has been well-received and there have been no complaints about the accommodation facilities in the athletes' village or the food , as certified by the IOC . Many athletes have praised it as the best treatment in the history of the Olympics. This evaluation is especially valuable because it comes from foreign athletes more often. The reason is because it provides four meals a day, halal food/allergy prevention menus, has about 420 menus, and in the case of bread menus, it prepares only the dough and bakes and serves it immediately when an order comes in . # , # , #
Republic of Korea, a country that is serious about rice[112] In addition, countries with poor relations were arranged to have separate accommodations, and thorough measures were taken to address the bathroom problem that occurred during the Rio Olympics.
- Shinsegae Food was selected as the official catering company to provide meals at the PyeongChang Olympics . Previously, Aramark of the United States, a world-class catering company, had an almost exclusive position in providing Olympic meals and won the bid, but in this Winter Olympics, all world-class catering companies such as Aramark, Sodexo, and Compass did not bid. Among Korean catering companies, Shinsegae Food pushed forward very strategically, to the point of signing a contract for employee accommodation even before the bidding notice was announced. Compared to other domestic catering companies such as Samsung Wellstory, CJ, and Our Home, which completely withdrew from this bidding process, we can see that they showed a very contradictory attitude. In fact, the official Olympic catering company has no choice but to make a loss during the Olympics, but it must pay sponsorship money to be selected as an official company, receive strict management from the IOC, operate only for a short period of less than a month, and provide free and unlimited meals to Olympic athletes. Even so, the IOC sets the prices of all food, so it is impossible to avoid a deficit. For this reason, the purpose of companies is to enter into bidding to advertise their companies and advance into various businesses, but surprisingly, the international catering company mentioned above has already entered Korea. Aramark came in during the 1988 Olympics and established itself by providing meals to French international schools in Korea, and is currently providing meals to the Sejong Government Complex. Despite this structure, it can be said that Shinsegae Food's ambition played a role in winning the contract through active bidding. In order to enter the global food service market, which has a market size of close to 100 trillion won, it is necessary to have know-how gained from providing various recipes and meals, and the Olympics is the best place to experiment to obtain these. The Olympics, where people from all over the world come and eat a variety of foods, and their evaluations are reported in real time by the media, are the optimal conditions for gaining a good experience. As the Pyeongchang Olympics are currently being held, negative issues such as norovirus have arisen, but overall, the event has garnered a positive response and has been avoided.
- The Netherlands was as cheered as the home team as a home team. It was because the Dutch was good for Koreans due to the propaganda of Gus Hiddink , Sven Kramer , and the Dutch national baseball team . In addition, the cheers were significant as Jorin Termors, who played short tracks and speed skating at the beginning of the tournament , as a coach , as a coach of the last year . However, in the second half of the tournament, the male team in the Ice Team, and the Ice players who were injured and defeated by the defeated ice players were unable to accept the anger and poured out the end at the press conference and the souvenir crammer was thrown in terms of fan service. I abandoned it. Fortunately, I didn't play with booing because it was in the second half of the tournament, and I had some face to face with the closing of the closing ceremony.
- Exactly two years after the closing, it became the last Olympics in the world's history, which was held before the expansion of the world's history, which had been hit by the earth . As a result, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics , which were the next Olympics , have been performed for a year.[113] Since 1992, when the Ha-Winter Olympics began to be held in a different year, the interval between the next summer Olympics has become the longest at three years and four months and 28 days (1244 days).[114] As a result, the Tokyo Olympics were held at the end of July 23, 2021, but the big bad news of Japan and abroad broke out in Japan, and in order to make the corona 19, 19 do not get out of the opening ceremony, all games and closing ceremonies were held. I had to take a huge debt with all kinds of deficits. In addition, the 2022 Winter Olympics, the next Winter Olympics , were also held as well as the concern that they were acting like Tokyo, but they achieved the worst Winter Olympic title, which was not open to all kinds of accidents . The PyeongChang Winter Olympics is constantly being reevaluated as long as the incident outside common sense continues in the Olympics, as the 2024 Paris Olympics are constantly occurring.
- Saori Fujimoto , who has been active in the entertainment show " Girls Who Hit Goals" since 2023, is said to have begun her career in the Korean entertainment industry after being appointed as Japan's representative ambassador for the Pyeongchang Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Elisabeth Swany of Hungary, who competed in the women's ski halfpipe preliminaries, barely jumped and received 31.4 points, placing last out of 24 and being eliminated from the preliminaries. She, from the United States, changed nationalities twice to participate in this competition.[115] After choosing the halfpipe event, which had the shallowest player pool, I participated in mainly mid-sized and small-sized competitions and accumulated points one by one to participate in the competition. That doesn't mean I broke the rules, but I raised funds or worked part-time to participate in the Olympics. Because of this story, reviews of Suwanee at home and abroad were extremely mixed, and various interpretations were given. neutral interpretation negative interpretation

[1] Although the organizing committee did not create a separate theme song, this song created for the torch relay actually served as the theme song for the competition. Even during the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympics, when a video of the torch relay was broadcast through OBS, this song was added to the video. There was controversy as Insooni , who was controversial at the time about tax evasion , was selected as the singer, but many commented that the song itself was well-made. In addition, there is also a cheer song called Champion , written by Wonju city official Byun Jae-eon and sung by Yoo Jeong-seok , but it was not used in the actual broadcast.[2] Korean language-related websites (tickets, stores, information, news, etc.) have been closed, and only the official website of the Olympic Committee remains.[강원24] 3.1 3.2 3.3 Afterwards, the PyeongChang Winter Olympics content was left as is and switched to the official account for the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics .[폐쇄] [7] The background music is Arirang , a traditional Korean folk song . full version[8] This scene was also used in the opening of SBS PyeongChang 2018.[9] KBS self-produced, MBC used Soohorang mascot promotion video, and SBS used OBS intro video.[10] February 9 - February 25, 2018.[11] It is the third Winter Olympics held in Asia , following Sapporo and Nagano , Japan . It is the second host country after Japan , as Japan has previously hosted it twice.[12] France , USA , Germany , Italy , Japan , Canada , Russia , South Korea .[13] Russia, which hosted the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia in June 2018 , joined the ranks for the sixth time, and the United States , which hosted the 2022 Oregon World Athletics Championships in 2022 , joined the ranks for the seventh time.[14] Meanwhile, the unified women's ice hockey team between North and South Korea was classified as a third COR team, neither KOR nor PRK, and used the Korean Peninsula flag and Arirang . The IOC's first official language is French , and Korea is called Corée in French, so COR was taken from here.[15] symbolize the ice[16] Of course, since the two competitions are separate events, it is not a problem to mark only the Olympics, for example, without using both the same emblem and name. Even from the Olympic homepage, during the competition period, the Olympic and Paralympic Games websites are separated, and the CI also shows only one side according to each.[17] However, as an exception, Puleco, the mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, had some recognition only in Korea.[18] When viewed from above, the product looks like the words '2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games' (right), and when viewed from the side, it looks like a mountain range (left).[image]
[20] It is made of braille glyphs on Unicode , so it may be broken in some environments.[21] Demolition completed except for the current torch and headquarters building.[A] 22.1 22.2 After the closing, it was converted into a gym.[24] The ultimate distance between the Olympic host city and the actual stadium is the 2024 Paris Olympics. The surfing venue is Teahufu Beach in Tahiti , French Polynesia, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on the other side of the globe from Paris . The actual distance is 15,706km! The reason for holding the competition here is that the French Atlantic coast and Mediterranean coast are calm inland seas (level) with almost no rough waves suitable for surfing, and the decision was made to take into account that surfing originated in Polynesia.[25] In fact, in the case of Yongpyong Resort located in the Daegwanryeong area of Pyeongchang, the main stadium for the Winter Olympics, many locals recognize that Gangneung and Daegwanryeong are not different regions to the extent that many employees commute from Gangneung.[26] Currently, a private company has the right to operate. It is used as the home stadium of the Shinano Grand Cerrouse of the Baseball Challenge League, an independent baseball league in Japan . About 1-2 local away games of Japanese professional baseball are held every year, and an All-Star game is also held.[27] Some say that it is very refreshing to have a game held on a ski jumping platform, but Gangwon FC fans said that the process of going to a home game was very inconvenient.[28] Hoenggye Terminal is close to the Olympic Plaza, less than a 5-minute walk, so accessibility is better than any other means of transportation. This is especially true because in order to shorten the distance to Hoenggye Terminal and increase accessibility to Hoenggye town, Doam Middle School (now Daegwallyeong Middle School) was relocated to the outskirts of Hoenggye, completely demolished, and Medal Plaza was built there.[29] However, in reality, it was difficult to obtain KTX tickets, so it was easy to see foreigners boarding not only the Gangneung Line but also the express bus nearly half of the time.[30] However, since the tourist buses currently in operation in Korea do not have low-floor buses, dozens of low-floor buses currently operating as city buses in Seoul are supported for the disabled and the transportation vulnerable, and these buses are operated as priority buses for the transportation vulnerable, and these buses are operated at stadiums rather than other routes. It provided convenience by moving closer to.[31] In domestic broadcasting, it was expressed as Taiwan for convenience. Then, Chinese media and netizens widely criticized and protested that it had violated the one-China principle.[32] North-South unified team[33] Indicated in "Participating Countries" on the homepage[34] Due to friction between Muslim countries, Israel is joining its sports leagues in European leagues.[35] Paralympic athletes from the same country participated in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Games held later.[36] In the case of Singapore, it was known that the coach who guided the athlete who won the right to participate in the Winter Olympics for the first time in history was the Korean short track legend Coach Jeon Yi-kyung , drawing attention. In addition, the athlete who won the right to participate in the Winter Olympics for the first time in Malaysia is said to be from the Pyeongchang Dream Program.[37] Most of the major international competitions held in Korea, including the Seoul Olympics , entered the order of Hangul. However, the 2015 Summer Universia, which was held in Gwangju, entered the English order.[38] However, individual qualifications do not mean only individual competitions, but also team competitions such as ice hockey and curling.[39] Due to the nature of the Korean language, both P and F of the alphabet are written as ㅍ, so naturally, countries starting with the letter P and countries starting with F are mixed in ㅍ. However, fortunately, the two countries that start with F were right next to each other in alphabetical order, so it was possible to fit them in between them.[40] North Korea, Albania, Madagascar, Cuba, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Nicaragua[41] However, the IOC does not officially rank overall based on the number of medals. This is because the size of the athletes participating in each country is different, and the sports they participate in are also different. If rankings are made this way, it is impossible for countries with small players such as Malaysia , Singapore , and Ecuador to be ranked first even if they win all the championships. So this comprehensive ranking is a kind of unofficial information.[42] Gold medal winners tied for first place with Germany[43] Prospective speed skater Gao Tingyou won the bronze medal for the first time in Chinese men's speed skating. In the end, he won the gold medal in the men's 500m at the next event held in his country, beating Cha Min-gyu by 0.07 seconds.[44] In snowboarding, both men and women won gold, but only bronze in women's ski halfpipe, so it's not an all-out sweep. Instead, men's ski halfpipe won gold, silver and bronze.[45] Moreover, Kiken Lendl, one of the gold medalists in ski cross-country, was later elected to the IOC Athletes' Committee, which was a double blessing.[46] Since then, Rio Xiaoyang , one of the relay members, won a gold medal at 500m later and led Hungary's first solo gold medal in Hungary.[47] Afterwards, Bart Swings won the gold medal in the same event four years later, pushing South Korea's Jaewon Jeong and Seunghoon Lee to second and third place.[48] It was Britain 's only gold medal.[49] The Han River froze over very quickly for the first time in 71 years .[50] A typical example is the snowboard parallel slalom. Originally, the two players had to ride the blue and red alternately and add up the records of the two confrontations, but due to the strong wind forecast, the schedule was pushed back and the men's and women's games had to be completed in one day, so it was changed to riding only once, thanks to the preliminary results Lee Sang-ho, who received the unfavorable blue lane after being pushed out, ended up with a silver medal.[51] The first gold medal in the tournament[52] Korea's first gold medal in sledding[53] The first medal of the Korean snow sport[54] The first medal of Korean curling stocks[55] The first medal of Korea Bobsleigh[56] The previous record for the most events was in three events: short track speed skating , speed skating , and figure skating .[57] However, the opening and closing ceremonies are recorded and broadcast during US prime time.[58] KBS self-produced, MBC used Soohorang mascot promotion video, and SBS used OBS intro video.[59] Through a contract in 2011, it holds the rights to broadcast the Olympics throughout Korea until the 2024 Summer Olympics. After the end of the general strike, the newly launched management could have completely kicked out Kim Seong-joo if they wanted to, but the backlash from viewers is so great that they are not stopping him from appearing on entertainment programs including King of Mask Singer MC.[91] In general, it is customary for each caster to take charge of one to three events and prepare for a long time in Olympic broadcasting.[92] At this time, SM 's vicious behavior against broadcasters was at its peak, so it seems that it had some influence. Considering that the main character of Totoga 3 was none other than HOT , SM's first generation boy group , and that Music Core showed that Mark Lee of SM boy group NCT was about to make his MC debut on the same day, this was also sufficiently suspicious.[93] Other business divisions and other affiliates of Samsung were not included as Olympic partners , but Samsung Securities and Samsung Life Insurance became sponsors by signing separate agreements with the Organizing Committee.[94] For the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Panasonic TVs were used.[95] It served as a worldwide partner until the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics . Two years ago Similar to Nissan .[103] Ticket payment agency. Because of this, all ticket payments during the PyeongChang Olympics were recognized as being done through Interpark.[104] Even gloves and the like are doing a 1+3 event.[105] 2018 Term ends on February 24th[106] Since the opening declaration of the Olympics has traditionally been made by the head of state of the host country, attendance can be said to be mandatory. Even during the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Canada's head of state was nominally the King of England, so Queen Elizabeth II flew to Canada and gave the opening declaration in French. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics held later, the then-Governor-General of Canada, the de facto head of state, declared the opening ceremony.[107] There is no precedent for not attending the opening ceremony, but there are cases where the head of state attended the closing ceremony and there were cases where the head of state did not attend.[108] For reference, Chun Doo-hwan was also absent during the opening ceremony of the 1988 Seoul Olympics.[109] In fact, it is not common in Pyeongchang to have snow in April or May. However, between January and March, snowfall is of course frequent and even heavy snow falls.[110] Coincidentally, at the 1988 Seoul Olympics 30 years ago, the Olympics and the Chuseok holiday overlapped.[111] In fact, there was a song called PyeongChang's Dream that wasn't bad, but it's highly likely that this song wasn't chosen because it was the theme song for the invitational program and was already sung at the closing ceremony of the Sochi Paralympic Games.[112] In fact, most of the reactions of public opinion were like this.[113] It was the first time that the event was not held on its original scheduled date since it was canceled due to the outbreak of World War I and II.[114] Usually, the interval between summer and winter is 1 year and 5 to 7 months, and the interval between winter and summer is about 2 years and 5 to 7 months . (3 years, 4 months, 6 days/1,224 days), there are also Olympic Games with a shorter interval than Pyeongchang-Tokyo.[115] She changed her nationality to Venezuela, her mother's nationality, but when it became difficult to participate in the Olympics, she changed it again to Hungary, her grandparents' nationality.

(3 years, 4 months, 6 days/1,224 days), there are also Olympic Games with a shorter interval than Pyeongchang-Tokyo.[115] She changed her nationality to Venezuela, her mother's nationality, but when it became difficult to participate in the Olympics, she changed it again to Hungary, her grandparents' nationality.![]()
