The 4th king of the Kalmar Union of Norway and Sweden .

In Sweden , Carl VIII Knutsson[2] , in Norway he is called Carl I.

2. career

As a Swedish nobleman, he received part of Finland as a fief from Christopher of Bavaria and served as the lord of Vyborg Castle in his youth.

When Christopher ascended the throne without an heir, the Swedish nobles elected him as King of Sweden, and the Danish nobles elected Christian of Oldenburg, a descendant of their predecessor King Eric V, as Christian I. Carl was also crowned King of Norway, but, under pressure from King Christian I, he abdicated the Norwegian throne.

Because he was an elected king, his royal power was very weak, and he died in 1470 after repeating abdication and reinstatement in the struggle between Swedish independent nobles and pro-Danish nobles.
