Queen Victoria and Margaret
In the vast nature of Bagshot, outside London, Margaret developed a passion for botany, gardening and painting. I used to go out early in the morning and at dusk with paints in hand. We played tennis and golf, and in the winter we skated and played hockey on a frozen pond. I also took piano, dance, and horseback riding lessons. He was close to Queen Victoria , and when his parents went away, he was left in the care of his grandmother and spent holidays and Christmas at her grandmother's Balmoral Castle and Osborne House.

His siblings include his younger brother, Prince Arthur of Connaught, and his younger sister, Princess Patricia of Connaught. His childhood was full of warmth, but his relationship with his strict mother was somewhat difficult.

3.2. marriage

When Margaret and Patricia were old enough to get married, their uncle, Edward VII, who was the King of England at the time , wanted to marry his beautifully grown nieces to heirs to the European throne, and had the Crown Prince of Portugal or the King of Spain in mind. In January 1905, the Connaught family sailed for the Mediterranean on HMS Essex. The official purpose was to inspect troops in Sudan and Egypt. The family arrived in Cairo, Egypt on January 26 via Portugal and Spain and attended a ball at the invitation of Abbas Hilmi II Pasha. At the ball, Margaret met for the first time Crown Prince Gustav Adolf of Sweden, who had arrived a week earlier to visit an archaeological dig. Originally, the one who wanted to marry Gustav Adolf was his younger sister Patricia, but Margaret and Gustav Adolf fell in love with each other at first sight. However, because we had upcoming schedules, we parted ways two days later and reunited in Cairo at the end of February. After a dinner hosted by Lord Cromer, there was an impromptu dance, and Margaret received a marriage proposal that day.

Wedding June 15, 1905[2]

The engagement was officially announced on February 25, 1905 . It is said that Margaret's parents, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, and her parents-in-law, King Oscar II and his wife, were very happy. In particular, from the perspective of Oscar II, his family, the Bernadotte dynasty, which was called the nouveau riche of Europe, became equal to the royal families of other countries as he and his eldest son married princesses of the ruling family in succession, and by marrying the British royal family, a major royal family called the grandmother of Europe, the family's status as a major royal family in Europe was finally established. He couldn't help but be happier because he was upgraded, and Oscar's wife, Princess Zofia of Nassau , was originally friendly to Queen Victoria, who had similar tendencies, so she once hoped that her eldest son would marry the Queen's youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice of England . His wish did not come true when his eldest son married Princess Victoria of Baden, but his wish was fulfilled when his eldest grandson married Queen Victoria's granddaughter.

And on June 15 of the same year, the wedding was held at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Her younger sister, Patricia, who was close to her, shed tears of regret. Margaret's wedding veil was inherited by her daughter Ingrid and is used as the wedding veil for her descendants. The newlyweds honeymooned in Ireland and arrived in Sweden on July 8 , 1905 , where they were greeted by thousands of people. Margaret began learning Swedish history, politics, and the Swedish language, and within two years she spoke Swedish perfectly.

Gustav Adolf was born in 1906 , and Sigvard was born the following year in 1907 .

His grandparents, King Oscar II and Queen Sofia, gifted the Sophia Palace to their grandson and his wife. The Sophiero Palace became the family's summer residence.

3.3. Crown Princess

On December 8, 1907, her grandfather-in-law , Oscar II , died, and her father-in-law, Gustav V , who was crown prince, ascended the throne as King of Sweden. Her husband, Gustav Adolf, became crown prince, and Margaret also became crown princess.

The marriage was very happy and three children were born: Ingrid in 1910, Bertil in 1912, and Karl Johan in 1916. Margaret had a very modern approach to parenting for her time. She breastfed her children and preferred to care for her children herself, and her nursery was attached right next to her bedroom. She also shared the couple's bedroom. She believed it was important to make friends her own age, so she created a classroom at the Stockholm Palace where she studied with children of the same age.

Margaret loved gardening and her husband was also interested in botany. She created an English-style garden at Sofiero Palace, and the garden still contains myrtle, which she brought from England when she married, and is used for royal weddings. She has also written a book on gardening. For this reason, Princess Margaret was nicknamed the Flower Princess. This hobby of hers was inherited by her illustrious daughter Ing Reed.

She also showed a keen interest in sports and art, forming Sweden's first women's bandy team and exhibiting her paintings at the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö in 1914.

The Crown Prince and Duchess were also the first members of the royal family to bring their private interests to the press. The image of the couple engaging in hobbies such as gardening, art, and sports has become familiar to the Swedish people.

During World War I, she founded a central council to raise funds to support conscripts and also served as a messenger between royal relatives. She had a brief rift with her mother-in-law, Queen Victoria, who supported Germany, but their relationship improved after that.

3.4. Dead

Beginning in the late fall of 1919, Margaret became ill several times. I felt pain in my ears and jaw, and in November I had surgery for a severe ear infection, but it did not recover well.[4] At this time, Margaret was pregnant, which further weakened her. The following February, I got better, but in March, I came down with a severe cold and malignant chickenpox. On Thursday, April 29, I felt discomfort around my right ear. On Friday, the area around my right ear swelled and my fever rose to 39.8 degrees in the evening, but my overall condition was no problem. On Saturday, his condition suddenly worsened, symptoms of heart failure and sepsis appeared, and he died the next day, May 1, at 2pm at the age of 38.[5] I was eight months pregnant with my sixth child.
1920 On a sunny spring day on May 1, we were having a break from the book outside. Suddenly someone came to us. We were heading home by calling from Stockholm. My mother was critical. On the train we were very quietly in each of our thoughts. It was a very serious situation. If not, it would not have been called home. But I didn't think death was so close. I pushed the thoughts. We arrived late in the afternoon and heard that my mother died a few hours ago. In the car going home, we sat in a complete silence. It doesn't seem to be crying. Rather, it seemed to be paralyzed. As I climbed Lehon Baken , I saw the flag of the royal palace fluttering in the middle of the flagpole. Then I realized that my mother died forever. My father already dressed in black and had a solemn face and found that he was crying. It was the first time. My father asked us if I wanted to meet my mother, but I didn't want to. I wanted to remember my mother in my last life. The smile who said goodbye before leaving for school. I could not imagine seeing the person he loved. I was afraid of death for the first time. The father said that he gathered five children in the Blue Salon and wrapped the two smallest children with his arms, and he said that he should now be alone and now to help each other. And for the first time I cried.

Memoirs of second son Sigvard

Margaret's sudden death was a huge shock to the Swedish and British royal families. The Prime Minister of Sweden, who was giving a speech, rushed to the palace, hugged Crown Prince Gustav Adolf and asked what had happened.
Now the sunlight has disappeared from Stockholm Palace .

Funeral May 13, 1920[6]
In accordance with Margaret's wish during her lifetime that she wanted to be buried close to nature rather than in Riddarholm Church, she was buried at the Royal Cemetery in Solna.

Three years later, in 1923, Crown Prince Gustav married Louise Mountbatten . When Gustav remarried, Ing Reed, the famous daughter who had been special to her mother Margaret, was angry with fire, and her stepmother, Louise, was also very difficult, but both Louise and Ing Reed later reconciled.

Gustav VI Adolf left the palace he loved throughout his life in Helsingborg , and his azalea collection and the garden maintained by Margaret still remain today and are a tourist attraction visited by numerous tourists every year. It was selected as ‘Europe’s most beautiful park’ in 2010.[4] The ear problem appears to have been present since last year. In September 1918, he wrote in a letter that he had taken cinnamon, aspirin, and quinine because he heard an unpleasant 'singing sound' in his ears.[5] Coincidentally, this day was the 70th birthday of her father, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught.[6] At her funeral, Ingrid and Bertil wore white, as Margaret had wished for her children to wear white if they were still young. The youngest, Karl Johan, was too young to attend. Behind Gustav Adolf and the children, you can see his father Connaught, Prince Arthur, Duke of Strathearn , Haakon VII , his father-in-law Gustav V , King Christian X , and members of the Swedish royal family.[7] Carl XVI Gustaf , etc.[8] Margrete II , Princess Benedict, Princess Anemari of Denmark
