Mariin is located in the Volga Federal District in southwestern Russia. They are an ethnic minority who live in the Mari El Republic and speak Mari, a language belonging to the Uralic language family . They are Eurasians , close to European descent , believe in the Russian Orthodox Church, and have a population of about 550,000 to 600,000 people. The Mari people call themselves ‘Mari’, which means ‘people’. They are believed to be descendants of the Cheremis (Черемисы) who paid tribute to the Khazar Khanate . Russians also called the Mari people Cheremis people, but after the Russian Revolution , they started calling them Mari people out of respect for ethnic minorities.
2. history
Originally, the Marie people, who lived in the Kamagang basin, moved between the Ballga and Bathga River in the early 10th century. The Mariers, the new people of Kazan Khan, fought persistently against the Russians after Kazan fell into the Ruth Tsar country and surrendered by the Tatar . A large -scale uprising occurred in 1552-1557, 1571-1574, and 1583-1585 so -called Cheremis. A large number of marines joined during the Kazak uprising led by Stefan Razin . The Mari -people's resolutions were not a sense of national consciousness or religious reasons, but from the rejection of agricultural labor .
The Mari people resisted with a great opposition to the Russians and the Russian Orthodox Church , and when the Russians blasted their sanctuary , they joined the Russian Empire with a large number of Yemeliyan Fugarch . Even after the Puga Chop's egg was suppressed and converted into Orthodox churches, he still believed in shamanism in real life .

3. culture

They worship trees and forests, especially oak, birch, and bodhi trees. It is believed that if you put your hands on a tree and pray, your prayers and aspirations will climb up the tree and reach the sky. They also have a kind of 'family tree' that the family worships.
Among the many gods worshiped by the ancient Mari, the supreme god is 'nanny'. One day, the nanny sent her daughter, Yuminnyudir, down the silk stairs to the ground. She, Yumin Newdir, came down to her land at her father's order to raise her cattle, and she met a beautiful young man 'Marie' near a spring where clean water gushed out. They soon fell in love, but the difference in status did not allow their love. Yumin Newdir suggested her Marie kidnap him. Knowing this, the nanny became furious and sent her famine, starvation, and death to the ground. But three years later, when her daughter and her husband gave birth to her son and came to visit the nanny, the nanny forgave them. The son born between them is the legendary ancestor of Mariin. But the nanny's younger brother, Keremet, blinded by her jealousy of Marie, tore her body apart and threw it on the ground.

Since the end of the 1980s, the traditional marines' traditional faith has revived, centered on Yoshikar-Ola, the capital of the Republic of Mariel . According to 2011 statistics, more than 15% of the population of Mariel's Republic follow the traditional faith. There are still many mari people who believe in the Russian Orthodox Church, but they also refuse to treat traditional religions from generation to generation.
