1. outline

A Swedish royal and diplomat, his title is Count Visborg. He is the paternal cousin of Gustav VI Adolf and the paternal grandfather of Karl XVI Gustav . Although he had no right to inherit the throne due to his parents' marriage to noble families , he had a close relationship with members of the royal family and was often dispatched on various occasions.

2. career

2.1. World War II

Through an operation called the White Bus, he contacts Heinrich Himmler and rescues 31,000 people of Northern European nationality from German camps through negotiations. Among them were 450 Jews .

2.2. 1st Middle East War

As the conflict with Palestine intensifies with the unilateral declaration of Israel, the United Nations dispatches Count Paulke as ambassadors. In Israel, where the memories of the Holocaust remained, they did not challenge the UN's decision because they would, of course, will be a pro -Israel person, and give it a favorable testimony to the country. But Count Paulke was a human rightsist, not a pro -Israel. He protected many Jews from the Nazi tracking because he was a human rights, not because he was a lineage. He witnesses the terrible reality of Palestinians and makes a report against Israel to the United Nations, and in Israel, he is a traitor.

2.3. assassination

While traveling in a UN vehicle from Jerusalem , he was attacked and assassinated by the Zionist extremist armed group Lehi .

This incident caused diplomatic repercussions, including the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 57 , and led to a long-term chill in diplomatic relations, including Sweden's opposition to Israel's entry into the UN.

There is a suspicion that Israel , which considered him a pro-Israel figure because of his actions in rescuing Jews in the past , secretly supported Lehi to eliminate Polke when Polke helped Palestine contrary to their thoughts . Golda Meir , who later became Israel's prime minister, defended herself by saying she did not even know that Polke had been assassinated. Due to the assassination of Folke Bernadotte, the Swedish royal family, including the king, have a very unfavorable view of Israel and have shown support for Palestine.
