London, April 7, 1853 Born at Buckingham Palace . At the time, there was a religious controversy over the use of chloroform anesthesia to relieve labor pains experienced by women during childbirth, which was considered to be God's providence. However, the controversy was settled when Queen Victoria safely gave birth to Prince Leopold by using chloroform as an anesthetic. He was baptized on June 8 and named Leopold after his great-uncle , Leopold I.
Leopold was the only one of Queen Victoria's four sons with hemophilia , so he was overprotected by his mother, and doctors were always present by his side. Leopold grew up to be a kind, sensitive, and very intelligent child. He was fluent in Latin and Greek and could play several instruments.
When Leopold grew up, he hoped to enter Oxford University . Despite the opposition of Queen Victoria, who did not want to send the sick prince away, Leopold entered Christchurch , Oxford University in 1872. Helen was a very kind woman, and she understood and supported her husband well. Ten months after their marriage, Leopold and Helene's daughter Alice was born. The couple cherished each other and created a happy family.

In 1884, Helen had her second child . At this time, Leopold was suffering from joint pain. Doctors recommended that Leopold recuperate in warm southern France . Leopold left his pregnant wife at home and headed to Cannes , France. Leopold, who was staying in Cannes, fell down the stairs, injured his knee and head, and died the next day from a cerebral hemorrhage .
