Volvo PV444

It was produced by the Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo from 1943 to 1958.

At the beginning of World War II, Volvo judged that fuel-efficient, small-sized cars would be the future, and with a complex production system created to reduce raw material shortages and dumping, the first cars were built around 1943–1944 and became popular, but mass production did not begin until 1947, and although they were considered outdated, they gained a reputation for being strong and sturdy.

It was the first vehicle structure produced by Volvo, and in 1939, it was a car that engineers studied after buying a 1.3L vehicle of Hanomag in Germany. It is also equipped with a four -cylinder engine for the first time in Volvo, unlike the existing vehicles that used the Straight 6 -side valve engine .

In the case of the powertrain , a 1.4L B4B-type I4 engine was initially mounted and produced 40PS, but the output in October 1950 increased to 44PS, and in October 1955 to 51PS. In 1956, it was also sold in the US market , where it was equipped with a 1.4L B14A type I4 engine producing 70 horsepower. In addition, a specification equipped with an inexpensive 1.4L B4B I4 engine was provided as a European specification. With them, only a 3- speed manual transmission was offered until discontinued .

From 1957, the engine displacement was increased to 1.6L, and B16A and B16B engines were installed. A single downdraft method was applied to the A type and a twin side carburetor method was applied to the B type. After a total of 196,005 units were produced in August 1958, it was discontinued when the Volvo PV544 appeared as a successor model.
