Norfolk Island. No fuck the main city is Kingston. The area is 36㎢, Gyeonggi-do It is similar to Gunpo City . The population is around 2,000 people. In some older books and documentaries, it is sometimes written as “Norfolk” or “Norfolk.” It is a volcanic island located northeast of Sydney and is a territory of Australia .

2. history

After being discovered by Captain Cook in 1774 , the British used it to pioneer as a place of exile for sinners. From the middle of the 19th century, it was opened freely and new immigrants flowed in. The inhabitants of the Pitcairn Islands, descended from a union between the rebels on the Bounty and the women of Tahiti , famously migrated to the island as the population grew.

It was established as an Australian territory in 1914.

During World War II, air force bases and supply depots were established here, playing a major role in supporting Allied forces stationed in Australia , New Zealand , and the Solomon Islands .

Since 1979, it has been self-governing and has its own national flag and coat of arms, but its autonomy has been significantly reduced since 2015.

3. language

English is the official language, and Norfolk, an English- based Creole , is also the official language.

4. economy

There are no special resources, just oranges , beans , and Araucaria, which is native to this island.[4] Seeds were exported, and tourism became the main industry after the 1960s.

5. politics

Although remote from the mainland, politically Norfolk Island does not have the degree of autonomy that overseas territories might have.

An administrator appointed by the Governor-General of the federal government represents the island, and all administrative services are provided directly by the federal government. There was once an Autonomous Assembly, but it was abolished in 2015 to reduce autonomy.

Administratively, it does not belong to the six states and other territories of Australia, but as part of a measure to reduce autonomy, federal law and NSW law have been applied to this area since 2015, making it virtually the territory of New South Wales.

The abolition of the Autonomous Assembly in 2015 caused several controversies. Most of the islanders were opposed to the reduction of autonomy, and a referendum was held against it, which received 70% opposition.

The main cause of the disappearance of local councils is the economic crisis, which in 2000 resulted in Australia's value-added tax (GST)[5] The financial situation deteriorated significantly after the extension of the application to Norfolk Island and the financial crisis in 2008.

In the end, they requested support from the federal government, but the federal government pushed for the deprivation of autonomy in return. Even today, advocates for autonomy created a group called the Norfolk Island People for Democracy (NIPD) and asked the UN to put pressure on it.

There is also a small independence movement and a movement to incorporate New Zealand . So, in the opinion polls, the result of incorporating into New Zealand came out. #

Norfolk Islanders with Australian citizenship have the right to vote in and stand for election in federal general elections, sharing parliamentary constituencies with the Australian Capital Territory .
