1. outline

Politician of South Korea . He served as a member of the 18th, 19th, and 20th National Assembly.

2. career

He is a 20th graduate of Samil Technical High School (1st class from Samil Technical High School, Mechanical Department). He graduated from Inha University's Department of Mechanical Engineering and received a master's degree in economics from Yonsei University. Before entering politics, he ran a small business called Hwasan PAP.

2.1. Grand National Party (1998 ~ 2006)

He entered politics in 1998 by running for Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly as a Grand National Party candidate in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si. However, he was defeated in the first election.

Four years later, he ran again and was elected to the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly.

2.2. Independent (2006 ~ 2007)

After failing to receive nomination in the 2006 local elections, he left the Grand National Party and ran as an independent. At this time, the chairman of the party council who led the nomination was none other than Park Jong -hee, whose constituency is Jangan-gu, Suwon , and later developed a bad relationship with Lee Chan-yeol.

Even though he was an active provincial council member, he was defeated in third place.

2.3. Democratic Party (2007 ~ 2016)

Since the days of the Grand National Party , he has been classified as a member of the Sohn Hak-kyu faction. In 2007, when Sohn Hak-kyu left the Grand National Party and joined the United New Democratic Party , he also joined the Democratic Party. And in the 2008 general election, when the atmosphere was turbulent due to the crushing defeat in the presidential election, he was nominated and ran as a candidate for the United Democratic Party in Jangan-gu, Suwon. However, he was defeated by Park Jong-hee, an active member of the Grand National Party.

However, Park Jong-hee , who was elected at this time, was indicted on charges of donating books to voters and distributing business cards with irregular educational background, and was sentenced to a fine of 2 million won for violating the Public Official Election Act and lost his seat as a member of the National Assembly . A by-election was held in the second half of 2009 . At first, a theory was raised that Sohn Hak-kyu, a former governor of Gyeonggi Province, should be selected for the district . However, Sohn Hak-gyu refused, and instead, Lee Chan-yeol ran in the election with Sohn Hak-gyu's absolute support. In the opposing party, the Grand National Party, candidate Park Chan- sook, a famous announcer , is running. However, despite the fact that Park Chan-sook was a native of Jangan, the fact that the constituency was moved from Yeongtong-gu worked well, and Lee Chan-yeol won the election due to the fact that he actually ran the election as Sohn Hak-gyu's representative. It is also analyzed that the story of his marriage with his wife worked to his advantage in the election. The fact that his wife, whom he met as vice class president at Kookmin School (currently an elementary school), suffered a ruptured knee in an accident, and despite dissuasion from those around him, became known, worked to his advantage in voting.

In the 19th general election, he defeated Kim Yong-nam, a former prosecutor , and was re-elected.[8]

In the 20th general election, while serving as chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Party of the Democratic Party of Korea, he defeated Saenuri Party candidate Park Jong-hee and was elected to a third term.

2.4. Independent (2016 ~ 2017)

On October 20, 2016, Sohn Hak-gyu announced his return to politics and left the Democratic Party of Korea, and he followed suit the next day.

However, it is said that he left the party in a good atmosphere, which is rare in the history of Korean political parties. He stated that the reason for leaving the party was "the duty of life" to repay the help of Representative Sohn Hak-gyu, and as a departing person, he also said, "Even if I physically leave, I will never forget my love for the Democratic Party and my gratitude to the Democratic Party members." He went out in a good mood, was very close to Sohn Hak-kyu, and knew that Sohn Hak-kyu's help was vital in his political life, so Democratic Party members and supporters sent him away without any ill feelings. Before leaving the party, he met Choo Mi-ae, the representative of the Democratic Party, and at this meeting, it is said that Representative Chu gave congratulatory words to Rep. Lee, saying, “Please come back to the party with former representative Son on your back,” and “I will give you not just one seat, but two seats.”[9]

He is one of six independent lawmakers who supported the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye in 2016 .

2.5. People’s Party-Bareunmirae Party (2017~2020)

On February 7, 2017 , he joined the People's Party on February 10, following Sohn Hak-kyu, who declared joining the People's Party .

In February 2018, the People's Party and the Bareun Party merged and became the Bareunmirae Party .[10] After Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil returned to the Liberty Korea Party, he was mentioned as a candidate for Gyeonggi Province Governor by the Bareunmirae Party, but did not run.

In February 2018, when poet Ko Un 's sexual harassment was revealed in the #MeToo incident, he urged him not to live in Suwon and to leave as soon as possible.

He was elected as the chairman of the education committee in the second half of the 20th National Assembly through a party primary .

Ahead of the Bareunmirae Party convention, he served as the campaign committee chairman for candidate Sohn Hak- gyu.

They actively supported the introduction of the interlocking proportional representation system .

On February 4, 2020, he parted ways with Sohn Hak-gyu and withdrew from the Bareunmirae Party. With his withdrawal, the Bareunmirae Party lost its status as a negotiating body.[11] It is said that there was an offer from the Liberty Korea Party to nominate him .[12]

2.6. People Power (2020 ~ )

On February 6, 2020, he met with Hwang Gyo -an and was returned to the Liberal Korean Party in 13 years. # Lee Chan -yeol has no guarantee that the Democratic Party will protect a strong district in the next general election.[13] Above all, because the Liberal Korean Party was strongly opposed to election laws and airborne laws , just a month ago, the Liberal Korean Party was opposed to the Liberal Korean Party, but decided to accept it under the name of the intermediate conservative integration. Like Lee Eon -ju , he did not show a minimum of transmission, and even before joining the political move, the criticism of migratory birds is unlikely to be avoided.[14]

However, on March 9 of the same year, he was cut off from the nomination for the United Future Party . He supported candidate Chang-Sung Lee of the same party, but Candidate Chang-Sung Lee was defeated.

In the 8th national simultaneous local election in 2022 , the power of the people who were the opponent candidates at the time of the 19th general election Yongnam Kim He supported the election campaign of the candidate for mayor of Suwon , but candidate Kim Yong-nam also failed.

Ahead of the 22nd National Assembly election, I applied for nomination for District A in Suwon City to the People Power Party .[15] However, Kim Hyun-joon , former Commissioner of the National Tax Service, was eliminated as he was nominated as a single candidate.

3. controversies and incidents

3.1. illegal smoking controversy

In March 2019, smoking in the bathroom in the National Assembly caused controversy. # When the controversy arose, Rep. Lee explained, "I tried to smoke and leave quickly because it seemed that no one was there." However, all public places within the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea are non-smoking areas .

Unlike the 1990s, when it was natural to smoke indoors, or the 2000s, which had a transitional nature where indoor smoking was banned but not well observed, in the 2010s indoor smoking was banned everywhere except smoking rooms, and even outdoor smoking was restricted to smoking rooms. This is because we have become a society where smoking is encouraged and smoking outdoors is considered unmannered.

3.2. domestic violence controversy

On July 2, 2022, he was booked for domestic violence during divorce proceedings. In the article , the name was not revealed and only the titles of former National Assembly member and former National Assembly member were listed, but Lee Chan-yeol is the only one who served as a member of the National Assembly for this district during this period, so it meets the conditions quite accurately, as he is 62 years old, the police station is Suwon Central Police Station , his district is in Gyeonggi-do , and among the three-term congressmen (18th to 20s), Lee Chan-yeol is the only one who served as a member of the National Assembly for this district during this period.

Moreover, as you can see in the tender love story at the top, his wife was more controversial because he was a person with a disabled person. In other words, while releasing the love story, I appealed the most lovely image and used it advantageously in the election.[16] Later, there is a response of shock and shock in that it has been hypocritical in that it has committed this domestic violence.

[1] He lost his legislative seat for violating the Public Official Election Act .[A] 2.1 2.2 Starting from the 19th National Assembly, the Jangan-gu district in Suwon was reorganized into the A district in Suwon .[4] He is the 20th member of the National Assembly of District A in Suwon City after the division of electoral districts .[5] He is the 20th member of the National Assembly of the Suwon-si district after the division of the electoral district .[6] He is the 19th member of the National Assembly in the district A of Suwon before the reorganization .[7] My wife and I are in the process of divorce proceedings.[8] Ironically, in the early 2020s, they worked together in the People Power Party, but now Kim Yong-nam has moved to the Democratic Party.[9] In the future, as a similar case, there is Kim Se- yeon, who was reinstated from the Bareun Party to the Liberty Korea Party due to the political characteristics of the constituency .[10] In the Bareun Party , former lawmaker Kim Sang-min was serving as the chairman of the party committee in the same constituency, but the overlapping issue was naturally sorted out after Kim Sang-min stopped political activities.[11] In addition, there is no member of the National Assembly from the Gyeonggi-do district belonging to the Bareunmirae Party.[12] On April 25, 2019, during the days of the Bareun Mirae Party, he criticized Yoo Seung-min , a member of the Bareun Party , to return to the Liberty Korea Party with his puppets, but ironically, he returned to the Liberty Korea Party first.[13] Except for the 18th general election, Democratic Party candidates have been elected for the past 16 years. Even in the 18th, Lee Chan-yeol of the Democratic Party was elected in the re-election.[14] He entered politics as a member of the Grand National Party, but as can be seen from the fact that he was an aide to Sohn Hak-gyu, it was not a good fit due to the conservative party's rightward shift in terms of inclination.[15] However, the domestic violence controversy may be an obstacle in the process of divorcing his wife, which will be described later, and frequent changes in party affiliation from the time he entered politics in 1998 until 2024 are also a weakness.[16] This evaluation is likely because the story was released to the 18th general election.[17] Former predecessor Park Jong- hee lost his position as a member of the National Assembly due to violation of the Public Official Election Act[18] 2016.10.24 Withdrawal from the Democratic Party
