The region corresponding to the Savoie and Haute-Savoie departments of France , west of the Alps . Major cities include Chambéry and Annecy . Évian -les-Bains, famous for Évian, Chamonix-Mont-Blanc , which hosted the 1924 Winter Olympics , and Albertville , which hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics, are villages belonging to Haute-Savoie. .
