Afterwards, he graduated from the Department of German Language and Literature at Sogang University in 1980 as an education entrusted to the military.

2.1. military career

He has a high reputation for perfect work handling based on a strong sense of responsibility and a reputation as a bold commander who is tolerant to his subordinates.

He began his military career as a platoon leader in the 2nd Battalion, 37th Regiment, 12th Division, and participated in the Gangneung Armed Air Defense Force infiltration operation while serving as commander of the 55th Regiment, 22nd Division. He later served as head of the policy coordination department in the policy office at the Army Headquarters.

In November 2001, he was promoted to brigadier general and served as commander of the 13th Airborne Brigade and chief of staff of the Capital Defense Command. In November 2004, he was promoted again to major general and served as commander of the 20th Mechanized Infantry Division and chief of the Operations Department of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

On April 4, 2010, Park Jeong-i, then Vice Admiral and Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Power Development Headquarters, was briefing on the salvage operation of the Cheonan, which sank after being hit, at the Ministry of National Defense building in the Republic of Korea. He was one of the main characters who led the scientific investigation as the head of the military side of the joint civil-military investigation team during the investigation into the cause of the sinking of the Cheonan . At this time, North Korea's torpedo propeller was recovered from the waters off Baengnyeong Island, and it was revealed that the sinking of the Cheonan was clearly the work of North Korea.

He is famous for being one of the few generals who raised his hand for wearing a dog tag during Liberty Forward Party lawmaker Lee Jin-sam's "dog tag statement" during a meeting held by the National Assembly's National Defense Committee on April 30 of the same year to determine the cause of the sinking of the Cheonan (the two with their hands on the left of the photo) (right) among the generals. During a question-and-answer session at the meeting, Rep. Lee Jin-sam mentioned the issue of soldiers' discipline.[3] He asked Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lee Sang and Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Kim Seong-chan in turn, “Are you wearing your dog tags?” They answered, “I wasn’t wearing it,” and then asked the 26 generals and warrant officers sitting in the back, “Please raise your hand if you are wearing a dog tag.” At this time, General Park Jeong-i was one of three or four generals who raised their hands and said they were wearing dog tags .

General Park Jeong-yi, who took office as the commander of the Army's 1st Field Army, inspects the soldiers of the unit.

In June 2010, General Jeong Seung- jo, a classmate of the Korean Army and commander of the 1st Field Army at the time , was transferred to the position of deputy commander of the ROK-US Combined Forces Command. Accordingly, his contribution to the investigation of the truth about the Cheonan was reflected, and he was promoted to captain on the 16th of the same month and awarded the title of 1st Field Army Commander. It is evaluated that he is suitable as a front-line field military commander at a time like the present when tensions due to North Korea's armed provocations are heightened.[4][5]

In the second half of 2011, Park Seong- gyu[6] Lieutenant General was promoted to general and appointed as the successor commander, and during his tenure of 1 year and 4 months, Captain Park Jeong-i established the readiness to end field operations and established a perfect integrated situational response system. After 36 years of military service, he retired from service.

Although he is an FM soldier that everyone recognizes, it is said that thanks to this, his subordinates had a hard time knowingly or unknowingly. There are many times when I am admired for thorough self-management, such as group walking in the morning and afternoon without exception, and meditation before waking up, but it is not common to practice it...[7] However, he demonstrated leadership by example rather than authority or coercion.

Within the Army, he formed a line that could almost be called the Four Heavenly Kings, and this was the line of command he had when he was a division commander. He was so outstanding that he and his three immediate superiors were all called the Four Heavenly Kings of the Republic of Korea Army, and all of the generals mentioned below were promoted to captain.
  • Army Chief of Staff Captain Kim Jang-soo
  • 3rd Field Army Commander-in-Chief Kim Kwan-jin
  • Commander of the 7th Mobile Corps Lieutenant General Kim Geun-tae
  • 20th Mechanized Infantry Division Commander Major General Park Jeong-yi

2.2. life after discharge

Even after being discharged, he is having a schedule that is as busy as during his active duty days.

In the 19th presidential election in 2017 , he was recruited as the permanent co -chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party's candidate Hong Joon -pyo, and Hong Joon -pyo also disclosed some Shadow Cabinet, saying that he would use President Park Jung -yi as the Secretary of Defense and the former Governor Kim Moon -soo as the Minister of Employment and Labor.

He is conducting research activities related to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Buddhism, and the military, and is actively engaged in activities based on academic knowledge as a researcher at the Korea Institute of Military Affairs. (as of September 22)

[1] Hong Joon-pyo also passed the final pass as a corresponding jockey, but went to Korea University Law School.[2] Current Military Support Headquarters[3] However, Congressman Lee Jin-sam did not hear good things about this. There is also a point that wearing a dog tag is not the time to bring up a side issue, and above all, Congressman Lee Jin-sam is from Hanahoe, which is notorious for being the king of lax military discipline .[4] At the time, personnel transfers at the Army general level were complicated, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lee Sang (30th Army Corps) was discharged, almost to the point of dismissal, and the vacant position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was filled by Army Chief of Staff Han Min-gu (31st Army Corps). In addition, the position of Chief of Staff of the Army was moved to the position of Deputy Commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command (31st Class of the Military Academy), who was senior among generals from the Military Academy (Hwang Ui-don, Jeong Seung-jo, and Kim Sang-gi). Instead of entrusting the vacant position of Deputy Commander of the Combined Forces Command to a second-tier promotion, 1st Army Commander Jeong Seung-jo was sent to fill it, and General Park Jeong-i, a second-time promotion, was appointed as 1st Army Commander.[5] In fact, the most likely person to be promoted to the second round was Hwang Jung-seon, the head of the Operations Headquarters, who was his classmate in the military. However, due to the Cheonan incident, the entire operational chain within the Joint Chiefs of Staff was subject to disciplinary action, and he was demoted to deputy commander of the 3rd Army and was discharged from there.[6] First Field Army Commander from the 3rd Military Academy[7] The work intensity of the exclusive aide-de-camp is proportional to the life pattern of the superior.[8] In the 2017 19th Presidential Election, Hong Joon-pyo was in charge of security policy assistance as the first person recruited from outside.
