1. outline

A politician, soldier, and bureaucrat from the radical enlightenment faction of the late Joseon Dynasty .

Although he was a member of the radical enlightenment faction, unlike Ko Young-hee , Park Jung-yang , and Lee Gyu-wan , he opposed the forced annexation of Korea and Japan. When King Gojong was forcibly dethroned by pro-Japanese and anti-national actors such as Lee Wan-yong and Song Byeong-jun , he planned to assassinate Park Yeong-hyo , Nam Jeong- cheol, and the ministers who pressured King Gojong to dethrone, but was discovered and failed. Afterwards, unlike Park Young-hyo and Nam Jeong-cheol, who turned to pro-Japanese factions, they did not turn into pro-Japanese and anti-national activists. In 1907 , he was condemned along with Park Yeong-hyo for framing Prime Minister Lee Wan-yong and died in 1909 at the age of 61.

2. career

1848 He was born as the son of Lee Myeong-ik (李溟翼) in Han Seong -bu (currently Seoul ), and was later adopted by Jeungwoouijeong Lee Geon-ik (李健翼). When he was young, he studied under Kang Wei and was well versed in martial arts. In 1879 ( the 16th year of King Gojong ), he entered the 3rd place and 45th place in the Sienyeon Saengwon , and in 1880 when he was 33 years old He was recommended to the post of military officer as Eumseo and went to the official post. Two years later, in 1882 (the 19th year of King Gojong's reign), he passed the special civil service exam as a saengwon and ranked 14th in the military department , and was appointed Hongmungwan Busanchan (副修撰, 6th rank).

In 1883 , Gyeongsang -do went to a female fishery and was written by the leader at the time, and the people who were damaged by murder, exploitation, and torture, and thanked the people's achievements in the rocks in Busan Metropolitan City. It still remains in Gijang -gun , 1884 Kim Ok -kyun , Park Young -hyo , and Seo Jae -pil caused the Kapsinjeong to participate in the suppression operation and suppressed Gap Sinjeong . Since then, Gyeongsang -left Doam Hanga Temple, Eastern Victory, True Military Secretary, Ijo Lee He served as true and Sungkyunkwan metabolism. In 1886, during his office, he returned to Gogeum -do by the fourth party , and in 1894 The flowering party (radical breakup) government was released and was released. When the Donghak Farmers' Movement occurred, it was dispatched as an observer of Jeolla -do, captured Kim Gae -nam , executed on Jeonju Green Rock, and captured Jeon Bong -jun.

He remembered the grievances of the islanders who had seen the past exiles as an observer in Jeolla -do, and appealed to make a new administrative district for the islands of the southwestern coast of Jeolla, and this was accepted and accepted in 1896 February 13 , Chief Decree No. 13 《An agenda that divides several islands of Jeonju, Na Housewife, and Namwon.[1] Three troops in Wando -gun , Dolsan -gun , and Leadersal Army were established in this promulgation . In other words, this measure was not a simple act of establishing an administrative district, but a community of the islanders who had been oppressed for a thousand years. Dolsan -gun and leadership were abolished in 1914 during the merger of Buddhist -myeon and disappeared into history[2] Wando -gun still remains, and Wando people have set up a small net fee in honor of Lee Do -jae in Gogeumdo.

He served as Minister of Military Affairs and Minister of Academic Affairs, but when the order to shorten his hair was issued, he appealed and resigned from his official position. Afterwards, he again served as president of the Railway Institute, minister of academic affairs, and minister of internal affairs . In 1904, when Japan demanded the right to develop wasteland, they gathered people to establish an agricultural and mining company and argued that 'we should do wasteland development with our own hands, not leave it to the Japanese.' In August 1906, he was awarded the Taegeukjang, 2nd class, for his outstanding achievements, and in October of the same year, he was appointed as a special inspector of the Ministry of the Palace and a funeral director in that order. In April 1907, he was awarded the Order of Bagua, second class, and in June of the same year, he was appointed director of the Academy of Sciences and special adviser to the Ministry of the Interior of the Palace. In July of the same year, when the Royal Palace Conference was held to discuss the abdication of King Gojong due to the Hague special envoy incident , he did not attend due to illness , and when King Gojong was forcibly abdicated by Lee Wan-yong's cabinet, Park Young -hyo , Nam Jeong-cheol , and others of the 2nd Regiment of Protesters came from Pyongyang. Through support, a plan was made to assassinate all the officials who decided to abdicate King Gojong, including Lee Wan-yong , on July 20 , the day of King Gojong's abdication ceremony, but this was not done in advance. He was discovered and eventually arrested. Afterwards, he was again appointed to the position of Lord Chamberlain, but he was impeached when Jo Jung-eung demanded that Lee Do-jae be punished for not attending King Gojong's abdication ceremony due to illness or other reasons, and he died on September 25, 1909 . Sunjong grieved deeply and provided funeral items .

3. digression

Currently , the Army Museum is storing and displaying the official uniform of Lee Do-jae, which is National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 553 and is estimated to have been made around 1897-1907 . This ceremonial dress worn by Unjeong Lee Do-jae has not only the symbolic value of being a ceremonial dress of the Korean Empire, but also has a higher preservation value because of its excellent preservation status, design, and color.

On June 19, 1906, while serving as the governor of Jeollanam- do, Jeollabuk-do In order to suppress Choi Ik-hyeon 's righteous army stationed in Sunchang-gun, he dispatched a Korean Imperial Guard stationed in Gwangju-gun . According to 《 MaecheonYarok 》, at the time of dispatching the troops, an edict was issued stating that they should only be stationed within the boundaries of Sunchang-gun and not engage in any engagement with righteous soldiers, and if they did engage in combat, they would be sentenced to beheaded even if they were victorious . It is said that the Jinguard did not engage Choi Ik-hyeon's righteous army. This is an anecdote that shows Do-jae Lee's uprightness. Maecheonyarok Volume 5

Although a festival commemorating the 120th anniversary of Seolgun in Wando-gun was held in 2016 , there was also an article in a local newspaper in the Wando area that expressed regret that even the achievements of Ido Jae-gong were not made public . Also, thanks to Seolgun of Dolsan-gun in 1896, he was the person who created the starting point of Seolgun of Yeosu -gun on May 16, 1897, and Jeollanam-do. Yeosu city There is also a monument to Lee Do-jae in Gunna-ri, Dolsan- eup .
