There was also controversy about the constellations changing. Park Keunkul, an astronomer who advocated for the constellation Geokkun to be added to the ecliptic, explained that the fuss was meant to spark his interest in astronomy. The International Astronomical Federation has certified 88 constellations at the 3rd International Astronomical Federation General Assembly .
- An asterisk (★) next to the date of passage of the meridian is a constellation that can be seen throughout the year in Korea .
- In order to properly observe constellations in Korea, the observable range must be at least north of 37° north latitude (based on Seoul Metropolitan City). If the area south of 33° north latitude (Jeju Special Self-Governing Province) is the northernmost point of the observable range, give up the observation of the corresponding constellation . 5.1. Constellations not recognized by the International Astronomical Union
Since Ptolemy designated 48 constellations, new constellations have been created, separated, or merged by various astronomers until the International Astronomical Union (IAU) designated the modern 88 constellations in 1930. The constellations shown here are constellations that were once common before 1930, but are not currently accepted. For reference, Argo is the only constellation among the 48 constellations of Ptolemy that has not been officially recognized. However, each part of Argo (Compass, Veil, Puppis, Carina) has been recognized.
