1. outline
An autonomous district located in the north-central part of Busan Metropolitan City . It borders Geumjeong-gu to the north , Yeonje- gu to the south, Buk-gu and Busanjin-gu to the west , and Haeundae-gu to the east .
During the Japanese colonial period , many Japanese lived in Jung -gu , which was a city center of Busan, so there was a final station of Busan tanks that departed from Dongnae Hot Spring and passed through Seomyeon and connects Busan . There were several theaters from the Japanese colonial period, and all the remaining theaters were closed around the 1990s. However, over 50s are still called theaters. The older one is also called the old market.
The old mascot, Ttugi , is derived from the Malttugi mask that appears in the local mask dance, Dongrae Yaryu, and is cute in its own way.

2. symbol
CI of Dongnae-gu |
The triangle is Geumjeongsan's high weather and endless development, the middle of the middle of the crane is a troubled spirit and history, and the third line at the bottom means the breakdown of culture and tourism with hot springs[7] |
Dongnae-gu's brand slogan |
The image of Dongnae-gu, where the history and culture, which is the root of Busan and at the same time, is alive and breathing, is expressed through the visual dynamism of the Dongnae Crane Dance and the auditory pleasure of the Chuimsae, indicating that the traditional culture is inherited, identity established, and a place of exciting festivals. |
Dongrae-gu mascot |
Malttugi, who satirized and ridiculed the incompetence and bravado of the nobles, became Dongnae's Ddugi and Ddumi, acting as the voices of the people who looked at the world with clear and big eyes and conveyed even the low voices and bitterness of the people with big ears. It was created by embodying the identity of Dongnae, the home of traditional culture, and Malttugi of 'the people's hero, productive criticism, and warm heart' in a friendly way with Ddugi and Ddumi. |
Dongnae-gu's symbol | |
There is always green throughout the year, which means the constant will and strong spirit of Dongnae-gu residents.

The lofty dignity and purity refer to the pure appearance of scholars who have nurtured the history and tradition of our hometown and the honesty of the residents.
3. history
It is the oldest area in Busan , and it is no exaggeration to say that most of Busan's history before the modern era is Dongrae's history. For more information, see Dongrae and Busan Metropolitan City/History .
The name Dongrae has been used for a very long time. In the early days of the Three Kingdoms period before Silla , there was a Geochilsanguk , and after it was conquered by Silla, there is a record that it was renamed Geochilsan- gun to Dongrae-gun in 757, the 17th year of the reign of King Gyeongdeok of Silla . It is the oldest place name in Busan along with Dongpyeong and Gijang , which were also built by King Gyeongdeok at the time . The center of Dongrae-gun during the Silla and Goryeo periods was originally located around the current Suyeong-gu , but due to frequent invasions by Japanese pirates , it was moved to the current location of Dongnae-gu during the Goryeo period.
During the Joseon Dynasty, it developed as a window with foreign countries and as the importance of Busan port under Dongrae jurisdiction increased, it was promoted to Dongrae-bu (東萊府). The territory of Dongrae-bu covers the entire Busan Metropolitan City, excluding today's Gangseo-gu , Gijang-gun , and most areas of Buk-gu . Busan was a subordinate place name of Dongrae (Dongrae-bu Busanjin, Dongrae-bu Busanpo, etc.). Today, on the contrary, Busan has become the top place name (Busan Metropolitan City) and Dongrae has become the bottom place name (Dongrae-gu).
In 1895, when the 23-bu system was implemented for a while, Dongnae-bu included Busan Metropolitan City , Ulsan Metropolitan City , Yangsan- si, Gyeongju -si , Geoje -si , and Pohang-si under the current administrative district . A year later, when the 23 subsystem was abolished and the 13-do system was implemented, Dongraebu returned to the former Dongraebu.
With the beginning of the Japanese colonial period in 1910 , Dongrae-bu was renamed Busan-bu, and in 1914, the remaining area excluding the open port area was separated from Busan-bu into Dongrae-gun. At this time, Dongrae-gun included the entire Busan Metropolitan City excluding the current Gangseo- gu , Jung-gu , Yeongdo- gu , Dong-gu , and Seo-gu . Afterwards, Dongrae-gun was continuously incorporated into Busan-bu, and in 1942, the current Dongrae-gu area was incorporated into Busan-bu. After liberation, Dongnae-gun was reduced to the current territory of Gijang-gun in 1963 , and was absorbed into Yangsan-gun and abolished in 1973.

Meanwhile, a branch office was established in the Dongrae area, which was absorbed into Busan Prefecture, and in 1957, Dongrae-gu was established as one of the six districts established when the district system was implemented in Busan City. At the time, Dongrae-gu, Busan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.[8] At the time, Dongrae-gu was a fairly large district encompassing the southern part of the current Geumjeong-gu , Suyeong-gu , Haeundae-gu , and Yeonje-gu . In 1963, Buk-myeon, Dongrae-gun was incorporated at the same time as the launch of Busan City. At this time, Dongnae-gu occupied a considerably larger area than it does now. However, in 1975, the current Suyeong-gu area was divided into Nam-gu along with part of Busanjin-gu , and in 1980, the area east of the Suyeong River was divided into Haeundae-gu , in 1988, about two-thirds of the northern part was divided into Geumjeong-gu , and in 1995, about half of the southern part of the remaining area was divided into Yeonje-gu , resulting in a significant decrease in area. The area currently under the jurisdiction of Dongrae-gu includes the town district of Dongrae-bu during the Joseon Dynasty. Perhaps that is why, during the construction of Busan City Railway Line 4, which passes east to west through Dongnae-gu, relics from the Battle of Dongrae Fortress during the Japanese invasions of Korea were discovered, resulting in construction delays.
The relationship between 'Busan' (metropolitan city) and 'Dongrae' (district) is Gwangsan-gu (particularly Songjeong) in Jeonnam Gwangju Unified Special City, Chilgok in Daegu Metropolitan City , Yuseong in Daejeon Metropolitan City , Masan in Changwon City , and Bupyeong in Incheon Metropolitan City .[9] , It is similar to Yeongdeungpo-gu (formerly) in Seoul , but while these areas still have a very clear sense of distinguishing their own neighborhood from the main city areas of Gwangju, Daejeon, Changwon, and Incheon, Dongrae people had a sense of distinguishing between 'Busan' and 'Dongrae' in the past, but now they have almost disappeared as they have been assimilated and take it for granted as part of Busan Metropolitan City.[10][11]

1980 Haeundae-gu , 1988 Geumjeong-gu , 1995 In the past, Yeonje-gu was a large district, with branches branching out one after another. After being divided into Yeonje-gu , the population of Dongrae-gu has been gradually decreasing from about 300,000, but compared to the overall population decline in Busan , the population decline in Dongrae-gu is progressing very slowly. This is because Busan Urban Railway Line 1 , Busan Urban Railway Line 3 , Busan Urban Railway Line 4 , and Donghae Line Metropolitan Subway are all located within the jurisdiction of Dongnae-gu, so redevelopment and reconstruction projects are actively underway along these station areas .

5. regional features
Except for the extreme western part where the foot of Mt. Geumjeong comes down , it is relatively flat compared to Busan Metropolitan City . Since the district is an old residence as a whole,[29] Overall, it feels old. There is a famous Dongnae hot spring . Because Japanese people like hot springs , Japanese envoys from the Joseon Dynasty often visited. During the Japanese colonial period, a Japanese-centered hot spring village was formed in this area, and it is called a hot spring resort . Thanks to this, the Dongnae Onsen area is still in full bloom in spring . Originally, Joseon people mainly lived near Dongnae Market (near old Dongheon), and during the Japanese colonial period, there were conflicts between the residents of the two regions.
In general, it is an old residential area, with the commercial area divided into Yeonje-gu , and the industrial area and newly developed area into Geumjeong-gu . The area between Sajik - dong and Oncheon-dong can be considered a busy area. Since the mid-to-late 2000s, the Pusan National University commercial district, one of Busan's representative commercial districts, has rapidly collapsed, and conversely, the commercial district around Dongrae Station has developed rapidly. Dongrae-gu was once one of Busan's wealthiest villages, and in terms of school districts, it still boasts one of the top-ranking school districts in Busan, and because it is an area where entrance exam academies are located in the eastern part of Sajik, Dongrae-gu, there are many families consisting of couples in their 40s and 50s with student children. The neighborhood atmosphere is quiet, so it is suitable for housing, and there are many schools. Among them, the areas to the west of Dongrae-gu , Sajik- dong , Myeongryun-dong , and Oncheon-dong , which are commonly thought of when thinking of Dongnae-gu, do not have any major underdeveloped areas except for some redevelopment areas, and are mainly populated by middle- and upper-class families. Since the Joseon Dynasty, the Dongrae Jeong clan and other aristocrats have lived in this area. As it is an old residential area, it has traditionally had a high proportion of single-family homes. However, due to its excellent school districts, transportation, and living environment, large-scale apartment complexes are gradually being built as redevelopment in many areas is successfully underway. Perhaps because of this, the population is showing a reverse trend of increasing in 2023.

Transportation is excellent. In particular, the urban railway has the largest number of lines among districts in Busan.[30] . Busan Metro Line 1[31] , Busan Metro Line 3[32] , and Busan Metro Line 4 passes by. Also, Donghae Line Metropolitan Subway Dongrae Station[33] , Anak Station , and Busan Wondong Station are located.
The road network is also good, with the 1st Mandeok Tunnel and the 2nd Mandeok Tunnel allowing you to travel quickly in the direction of Buk-gu . Chungryeol-daero on the east-west axis and Jungang-daero on the north-south axis intersect at Naeseong Intersection ( near Dongnae Station ), making it good for going to Haeundae, Seomyeon, or Geumjeong-gu. As a result, the section between Mandeok Tunnel and Dongrae High School is clogged with cars 365 days a year. When there is severe traffic congestion, even Tranchae Apartments in Anak-dong are sometimes blocked. Other than Naeseong Intersection, major intersections include Minam Intersection ( Minam Station ), Dongnae Intersection ( Suan Station ), and Anak Intersection ( near Chungryeolsa Station ).

7. economy
Dongrae-gu used to do really well. Because there were bus terminals (express bus terminal, intercity bus terminal) located within the area, it served as a gateway to Busan, and a commercial district was formed around it, giving it a strong economic power. A department store was built next to the terminal, and the hot springs near the intercity bus terminal were famous as hot spring tourist destinations, benefiting from terminal users. As a remnant of those days , there are many large and luxurious single-family homes in the Minam area, where the express bus terminal was located .
However, the bus terminal was relocated to Nopo-dong, Geumjeong-gu, and the areas near the coast, led by Haeundae-gu, have grown into newly wealthy towns , so the image of the wealthy towns as before has faded somewhat. However, as the title "Once upon a time was Busan's wealthy village" indicates, the city is still financially independent and is still living well in Busan .

The military office was originally located near Suan Police Station and was relocated.
- Ancient tombs in Bokcheon-dong - In particular , you can see the relics of the Gaya period at the nearby Bokcheon Museum . Since the entrance fee has been changed to free, you can enter without any burden , so those who want to study Gaya, among them, Geumgwan Gaya, are recommended to go.

Most sections have been restored in the Bokcheon-dong area, but some sections remain within the Chungnyeolsa Temple grounds.
- Dongraebu Dongheon - A government office that can be said to be the city hall of Dongnae Dohobu, a metropolitan city of the Joseon Dynasty. It is the largest wooden building in existence in Busan.[37] Until relatively recently, in the 1970s, it was used as a public institution building such as a public health center, and its shape was greatly transformed.
- Dongnae Hyanggyo - Hyanggyo, a higher education institution during the Joseon Dynasty, is located in Myeongryun-dong, like Myeongryun-dong in Seoul. As one of the major school districts in Busan , Sajik-dong School in particular has a high academic enthusiasm. Overall, educational conditions are good.
There are schools with long histories, such as Dongrae High School, which was established in 1898, and Dongrae Middle School (at the time of establishment, Dongrae Bu School. At the time, it was one school and separated in 1951). In addition to Dongrae High School, there are many outstanding high schools in the area, and the private high schools are also in a situation where problematic private schools have moved to other districts or been divided up, so compared to private schools in other districts, most of them have decent academic performance and facilities, and it is difficult to find private school corruption. Public high schools also generally have decent facilities and schools, so the district itself can be said to be one of the top class in Busan , along with Nam-gu and Haeundae-gu .[38] During its heyday in the 1980s and 1990s, Daegu Metropolitan City was considered the best school district in the region. It boasted a majesty that was comparable to or even surpassed that of Suseong-gu . Three richest people in Busan in the 1980s (Dongil Rubber Belt Kim Jin-jae , Dongseo University Jang Seong-man[39] In the 1980s, there were many children of powerful figures in the Busan area in the Dongnae-gu district, so much so that two of them ( Kim Jin-jae's son , Kim Se-yeon , and Jang Seong-man's son, Jang Je-guk) attended high school in the Dongnae-gu district. In 1987 and 1988, Dongrae-gu High School ranked top overall in the academic achievement test two times in a row, gaining national recognition, and the Woosung Bestopia Apartments in Bokcheon-dong were sold at a time when the Dongrae school district was the most overheated.[40] It became an issue as speculators flocked from all over the country. #
In addition, the high schools of Dongnae School District had a special note. At the time of the school uniform revival in the second semester of 1986, several high schools in Dongnae School District took the lead in participating in the school uniform revival. During the revival, there was a time when it was the first school district in the country to revive school uniforms, drawing attention from conservative parents.
On the other hand , there is no university . There used to be one, but it ceased to exist when Geumjeong-gu and Yeonje-gu were divided one after another. Representatively, Pusan National University (Geumjeong-gu) and Busan National University of Education (Yeonje-gu) broke away.
Aside from this, in the 1970s, Lucky Geumseong Group (now LG Group ) is private in Dongnae -gu. It was said that he made an industrial high school . # The current Dongnae Lucky Apartment was a Geumseongsa factory in the past . I made an industrial high school to cultivate the personnel necessary for the company , and in April 1979, I went to the opening of the school until the opening of the school . It was realized as a Yeonam Technical College .
As a special school, there is Busan School for the Blind in Myeongjang-dong.
9.2. food
Dongnae Pajeon is a famous dish . It was Dongnae Pajeon that introduced Pajeon to the Japanese in earnest . It is made by frying thick seafood and green onion pancakes with relatively thick green onions, then cracking an egg and covering it with a lid. Dongrae originated this style of pajeon. If you eat it together with Sanseong Makgeolli, the famous local liquor, it is excellent.
However, the original house tastes great, but the price and quantity are a bit crazy. In the early days, it was common food sold at stalls in the market, but as it became famous, it switched to high-end, tableware and bowls made of brass, and at the same time, the price changed accordingly. That's why the price range is so high that local residents don't go well.[41] On the way to Geumgang Park, there is a green onion house. Although the style is different from the famous Dongnae Pajeon, it is famous enough to appear in the Three Great Heavenly Kings.

9.3. medical institution
The largest general hospital in the district is Daedong Hospital (432 beds). Dongrae Bongsaeng Hospital (255 beds) and Gwanghye Hospital (175 beds) follow as general hospitals. Due to the nature of Busan, where mid-sized medical institutions are developed, these hospitals are sufficiently covering the medical demand, but it is somewhat disappointing that university hospital- level medical institutions are concentrated in the east and south.

Prior to the construction of the Dongrae-gu New Government Building, which is currently under construction, a number of relics and remains from the Joseon Dynasty and the Japanese colonial period were discovered as a result of a cultural property investigation at the site of the district office. Along with the former Dongnae-gu Office, a modern building that had the oldest office building in Busan, other excavated ruins were indiscriminately damaged during the speed fight for the construction of the new office building.
As of April 2022, construction of the new government building is underway as conditional permission was granted for the relocation and restoration of some remains and the operation of the exhibition hall according to the cultural heritage deliberation of the Cultural Heritage Administration. https://www.yna.co.kr/view/AKR20201102056400051
