2. history
Egypt Aghion, born in Alexandria , moved to France in 1945 and founded Chloé in 1952 to try the production of ready-to-wear , which was a new concept at the time. It started with the idea of presenting ready-to-wear that can be worn comfortably while maintaining the level of design of couture with luxurious materials and tailoring .
The first collection presented by Aghion with his partner Lenoir was unveiled at Le Café de Flor, one of the cafés in Paris . The collection was designed by Gaby Aghion and created by Lelong's assistant. Aghion's debut film was a success, creating a luxury prêt-à-porter. An era has begun. After business began in earnest in 1953, Chloé began to build its reputation as a fashion house by recruiting young and talented designers.
In 1966, when Karl Lagerfeld was hired as the main designer, it emerged as an iconic brand in the 1970s. With designs emphasizing femininity, Chloé was clearly imprinted with a romantic and soft image. From the mid-1970s, it expanded its business by producing perfumes. In 1983, Lagerfeld left Chloé, and in 1985, Aghion also joined Alfred Dunhill Ltd. (Alfred Dunhill Ltd. / now Richmont Group ), and resigned from management.
In 1997, Stella McCartney took over as creative director, staying with the brand until 2001, bringing the house to life. After that, Phoebe Philo took over McCartney's vacant position, and while she was leading the house, Chloé's sales more than quadrupled between 2004 and 2005, showing very successful results.
After Philo's departure in 2006, Paulo Melim Anderson, who was in charge of Marni until 2008, took over as creative director. In 2008, Hannah McGgibbon, who worked under Phoebe Philo, was appointed creative director.
In 2011, Claire Waight Keller, a British fashion designer who worked at Pringle of Scotland, was hired as creative director. Since then, it has been successful by producing hit bags such as Drew and Faye. When Claire moved to Givenchy in 2016 , Natasha Ramsay Levy took her place.
In December 2020, it was announced that Natasha Ramsay Levy would be leaving the House, and Gabriella Hearst would become the new Creative Director.
In June 2023, Hearst will leave Chloé with the final 2024 S/S collection. His successor has not been determined, and it is presumed that his resignation was voluntary.
In October, Chemena Kamali was set to release a new CD. She previously worked at Chloé under Phoebe Philo and was scouted by Anthony Vaccarello 's Saint Laurent . January 2024 Pre-Fall is expected to be her debut collection.
In December 2023, the CEO was also replaced by hiring Laurent Malekaz from Dunhill .
